I never realised how much Omega's nato straps suck....

I like nato straps and wear them on several of my military or dive type watches, but I’ve never understood how anyone could justify paying 250 bucks for one of the damn things. I paid 15 to 25 for each of the natos in what has become quite a pile of the damn things and they’ve all turned out to be decent quality items that last.

but 250 dollars?! Thats just nuts.

The irony of that statement is brilliant.

You won’t pay $250 for a nice quality Omega branded Nato, but you’ve happily paid what sounds like more for a “quite a pile of the damn” cheaper $25 ones.

Each to their own I guess. My personal preference is one or two proper nice ones over a pile of cheaper ones which don’t appear to be hitting the mark.

It’s real, I bought it from Omega. But you are actually right and it’s blown my mind.
I checked and The Omega strap is in fact a couple of CM longer. It’s the thickness of the strap, inflexibility, and probably hole placement that contribute to the feeling it ‘wears shorter’.
Took pic so you can see comparison.
Not a fan of the hardware on the Strapify one seeing it’s shown next to the Omega in that photo. Photo’s can be deceiving, but it appears to look to chunky for the watch and different colour/finish to it.

Maratac appears to have the quality. There are others who are selling the seat belt style. For myself, I seem to not want the nylon because it moves around on my wrist too much. Interestingly, the US Mil style strap does not.

Ah, yeh gottya, thanks for the pic. I do get what you’re saying. I own two Omega NATOs and if I was honest, I’d have to say the thinner ones I own that average at about £25 GB, get far more wear than they do. I love the SPECTRE because it goes with so much, but the thickness when worn with one of my Planet Ocean isn’t always what you want, dependent on activity. I wear NATO and rubber more than I do the bracelets so I appreciate your problem with it. But, it’s a great looking strap compared to the cheaper versions. Try it for a bit, they do get more comfortable.

Took my delivery of my new Seamaster today (black dial) and got a Nato black/grey bond strap to go with it.
Aus$250 that thing cost.

Carefully removed the steel bracelet and put on the Nato ...and realised how bulky it is, how average the material is, how short the strap is, (and how no single hole really works with me wrist, though that one isn't their fault).
A$250 for this?!

Luckily in my excitement to order my new Seamaster I'd also ordered some Ultra Nato's from Strapify.com.au including this grey/silver Bond style one:
https://www.strapify.com.au/collections/ultra-nato-seat-belt/products/ultra-nato-grey-bond
I just bought them for fun thinking I may want a change from Omega's own one some time down the line.

Changed them over and the Ultra nato from Strapify is thinner, lighter, looks and feels higher quality and stronger, better hole placement, hardware looks nicer, and its longer which means you can nicely tuck the end over the outside and into the second loop. Its also 1/6 the price.

I've heard people say that Omega's nato straps are overpriced but are very high quality ....gotta strongly disagree there....

I'm excited enough about my awesome new Seamaster that I'm not going to dwell on dropping A$250 extra for a strap I replaced after 1 minute for a strap 1/6 the cost thats better in every way IMO.

But hey, maybe this post will save someone else down the line.

Obligatory pics below.

The end piece is supposed to go under the upper keeper too.

No irony, that pile is an assortment of colours and four widths to cover the varying lug widths and my own moods, beats the hell out of 250 bucks for one strap that would only fit one of my watches.

I also had a bund strap phase until I realised bund straps make you look like someone who wears socks with sandals.

Exactly. ;-)

I feel attacked. 😬

I don’t own a bund, but for a week have the tab open on one - for my Glycine Airman 😁

It’s good to get it out of your system and over with mate, it’s sort of like flood pants in a suit, after a month or so of ankle cleavage had to send them to the lifeline bin

... that nato straps are stink absorbent.....

any cloth material touching the human skin must be washed at a reasonable interval, usually wearing for a few days the most (24-48 hours)

Agreed. No need for any thorough scrubbing though.

In the past I usually just washed my nato straps in the sink once in a while when washing my hands with soap. Rub em up, slide your watch around to get the soap underneath the strap too. Then just take it off and let it dry somewhere.

I'm not sure which I dislike more between Bund or Nato straps. Probably it's the Bund.

.

I'm so confused by this as I have done the exact same thing and had the complete opposite result.

I found the Omega NATO's to be fantastic quality, the perfect thickness and beautiful to the touch. I've got polyamide, leather backed nylon, polyester and leather NATO's from Omega.

Yes, the leather ones wearing a bit quick, and the polyester ones are probably not to everyone's taste, but the polyamide and leather backed nylon ones are well beyond any other NATO I own, or have owned in the past. They make the Tudor ones look like an eBay $10 special.

I've had my Bond grey/black since they came out (it must be 5 years old, give or take now, I can't remember), and it's had a heap of wear, including in swimming pools, oceans, etc. It quite literally looks like the day I purchased it. It's comfortable, soft, clean and not a loose thread to speak of.

The leather/nylon one has taken over as my daily the last couple of years and apart from some desk diving swirls on the buckle, it to looks like it is brand new. Admittedly, I keep that one out of the pool/ocean, but still, it's handled the years far better than the bracelet has.

I have 3 Strapify NATO's at home and I only ever use one (a particular one) if I'm doing some laps and even then, I hate it. It looks about ten years old and would be lucky to have been worn more than 100 times. It's also had more than a few tidy-ups with a lighter to stop fraying and wayward threads. I always noticed that the strapify were shorter too, which is a pain with larger wrists.

With what you've written, maybe they have changed their supplier of late, but I'm not game to try them again to find out.

That’s the way I look at it too. I’ve wasted hundreds on cheap, crap natos. For me, the omega ones are different level but pricey with it.

i have 3 of them, but rarely wear them. Prefer a good leather strap if I want a change up from bracelet.

It’s in my head to get a Nato for when I move back to short sleeves, just to keep the bracelet and my desk in good condition.

That's some way off, as temperatures are dropping in UK now, but the longer I wear the bracelet the less I want to change the strap. It’s just so comfortable and amazing to look at!

Agreed, but it’s nice to have the option to change it up. The good news is that many omegas look good on just about anything!

I actually like the Omega on Nato straps, I might be the only one that does but I think it's beautiful.
