·Looks like you're new to the forum. Additional context would be helpful such as what watches he wears today, how he prefers to dress, his wrist size and how much you want to spend.
Making a bunch of assumptions that he's ok with smaller watches and not rough with them, a vintage Oyster or Datejust is a good affordable choice. If you want a modern Rolex and want a chance of getting one from an AD, a Datejust is probably your best bet.

·Haha that second comment hit way too close to home with those waiting lists! But seriously, if you can actually land a Day-Date 36 in time for next week, go for it. Can't go wrong with a classic like that for an 80th

··Color Commentator for the Hyperbole.Probably best placed on the Rolex forum, plenty of us own both brands but strange question on what is predominantly seen as an Omega forum. No? Anyway if there thinking about buying an 80 year old a fancy watch, ship has probably sailed if he doesn’t have one already.

·Why is the request strange on a forum with sub forums for Rolex, Longines, UG…..etc? I know several very active 80 year olds that would take issue with the second statement.

I just think Rolex shouldn’t be the only sought out piece.
