I know: Omega and Rolex go head to head. But Omega:

I actually don’t mind it at all, but I do like the bubble OP quite a bit.

There’s s room for a little fun on the otherwise conservative and classic Rolex world.
If Swatch does it on a cheap watch then it’s fun design, but somehow we don’t accept it on an expensive luxury(ish) brand.

Is the acceptance or reluctance to playful design just attached to price? But, what if you have the money to pay and play?

it’s not for everyone, but it’s a nice little wild sibling.

You mean that Swatch from HELL
H
ype cheap bio-plastics
Expensive sales
Limit commercial distribution
Loose the real Omega fans
😁 😁 😁
I think it’s marketing genius… my young nephew has just been bought a moonswatch for his birthday, I am sure he will stick with Omega when older and purchase the original!

Yup. Gateway drug. The Speedmaster is now an aspirational product for teens and 20 something’s whereas it may not have been on their radar before.

Yep, true Omega fans won't be fazed by a Swatch watch...and it has created a host of new Omega fans.

You guys are going to kill me---I don't hate this watch. I really wanted to.

Got the call late afternoon yesterday from my Omega AD (who also does Rolex) that my Snoopy had finally come in. --I must have been among the first people to get on the list for it in the DC/MD/VA area. :-/ Anyway, when the SA called she said she also had something "special to show me from the crown." I figured it must be the left-hand GMT that I told her I wanted to try on. (I often wear my watches on the right hand.)

Turns out it was this. I laughed really hard when she pulled it out, but agreed to try it on---thinking maybe even if I didn't like it, my wife would. I ended up wearing it out of the store. (The Snoopy is still in the box!)

The colors are actually incredible in the metal, and it's way more muted than you'd think.

Snoopy pics to come!

No I don’t hate this watch… it is more the fact that Rolex have been unethical and that is what has left a bitter taste in my mouth, metaphorically speaking.

Ok - so it is silly Season for sure...

This new Omega Black Black Hawking is a step too far maybe. A tribute to Stephen Hawking's 'Hawking Radiation' and black holes. When time stops I guess. Nice to see the drop from 44.2 to 42mm... maybe a not to the answer to the ultimate question of life the universe and everything..... Still a no from me.

So, they had one of these in the store when I picked up my Snoopy and PuzzleRollie---I'm also not a fan. First of all, you're wrong about 42mm. It does say that in the listing, but look at the ref #. It's still 44mm. Mistake on the site. And because it's all black, it looks WAY bigger in person. And I'm not a fan of the digital display that lights up with the chrono pushers. Swing and a miss from Omega, and not well-timed with Rolex making big moves for their market-share.

You know you could flip both of those today and pay for a college education or down payment on a very nice house….just saying 😗

But- I would never encourage that behavior and am glad that someone who will actually wear them has possession of these. Enjoy.

I can attest. One of my apprentices at work was eyeing Moonswatches on his break and we had a little moment when he realized I was wearing an a speedy. Previously, I think the only watches he was really aware of were Rolex and other really unobtainable flex watches.

I tried to talk him into a humble Seiko 5 though. I enjoy my moonswatch, but I know he'd be pretty upset if his $300 swatch broke within the first year.

Congrats.

But you must show us what the other "days" and "dates" are

I just realized today’s date. Now I’m skeptical of everything.

It’s the same reaction my wife had when we were standing in the Swatch store and they told us what colors they had in stock. “That’s a lot for money for a toy you can’t service”.

😀 Come on, people. It's April 1st.

I wouldn't touch that watch if I were wearing hazmat gloves. Nor would I be able to get one if I wanted one. Nor will I ever get a Snoopy from an AD.

I do not understand the vitriol - you dont have to buy it or like it, but why the hate?

It is an interesting watch, that has taken considerable skill to translate from idea to metal.

You may not like it, and I accept that, I am never going to tell you what to like and not like.

I would point out that here is an asymmetric dial design that somehow becomes balanced. The colours manage to compliment each other, without clashing. I have already discussed the skill required for the stones, let alone the skill to affix them to the dial.

It is an amazing exercise in human ingenuity, skill and surprise.

For all those who blanket trash this idea, I challenge you right now to come up with another idea, just on paper (so ignoring the manufacturing challenges). Show us not a vomit meme, but instead exercise your minds, and come up with something better, that you like. See what comes out of your wild imagination. - Perhaps a CHATGBT prompt engineer can have a play!

Step outside your comfort zone. Do something positive, instead of vomit themes or hazmat jokes. Its really easy to criticize from behind a keyboard, but its much harder to actually do something.

Remember, Rolex knows how to make chronographs and submariners, and probably doesn't need much help. Instead here they have exercised the internal skills and come up with something everyone talks about.

I respect what they have done - personally Now that I know its a 75k gold watch I know I am not in a position to buy it, but I love that it exists.

Come on, I genuinely want to see what the people who have been so moved to contempt by this watch come up with, as well as any others who just want to draw out a design. And especially the prompt engineers.

Why would you bring logic and reason in a watch blog. Get out of here.

This deserves a new thread. If you start one, I’ll submit a layout.
