If you have Caseback opened you can date by movement SN and case reference is inside Caseback. It will also reveal if it is gold or gold cap.
Looks like 1950s.
Unfortunately the dial has been repainted, which was common practice back in the day if there was dial damage. Looks like the redialer added 30t2 which is probably the movement caliber. This was not on the original dial it is “artistic license” by the redialer.
Is it working? If you want to wear it regularly can get movement serviced by independent watchmaker with Omega parts account but it will cost $300-500 depending on required parts, which may be more than watch value. If you want to keep as heirloom may not be worth the expense

It’s not gold cap or plate. Info regarding gold content would be inside Caseback
Looks like one bridge was replaced at service, lighter color.

You don't think it might just be a complete fake (counterfeit)?

No, definitely not, my grandfather only brought the best drove beautiful cars. When I got this watch it was not working as it had been for a swim, so I have had it repaired. He did work at a very upmarket departmental store

It is very clearly not a 30T2 obviously, so no idea why they would put that on the dial other than for this reason.

As far as I can tell, this is just one of the 'anti-magnetic' fakes with a redial, but the movement at least claims to be swiss. I see the same movement sold in a few other watches on ebay, all with different/generic names, so I suspect this was just a generic swiss movement with a fantasy dial.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the watch is a well known fake.

Then he got scammed.

The applied logo dial could have been out of an Omega.

Nothing else appears authentic. The 30t2 marking is bogus. A 30T2 movement predates the style, never was 21 jewels.

Thank you for your views, it would be strange for my grandfather to buy something that was original

Here are hundreds of fakes for reference.

The applied logo dial could have been out of an Omega.
Maybe, but highly unlikely, many of the fakes have applied Ω logos.

Classic....come here for help and then question the preeminent Omega experts on the Forum and probably worldwide.

Keep it as a fond remembrance of your grandfather. Sentimental value only.

Completely fake. No Omega connection. We see this one pretty often. Perfectly fine (non-Omega) movement, though, so it can be happily worn as an heirloom.

Edit: Unitas movement, FWIW.

If my grandpa wore it I'd wear it too. Original, not original, no matter the condition or brand. Remember, this watch is a connection to a person ... and the person is what's important here.

Cool watch too.
