I don't understand the recent Rolex SS craze/shortage. What am I missing?

I wouldn’t be surprised if most manufacturers have a similar clause in their AD contract. One of the local independent jewelers was a long-time Grand Seiko dealer - one of the first in the country. But Grand Seiko decided recently to move to another dealer — part of a chain who can buy more watches at a corporate level to distribute to their many stores.

This local jeweler also used to be an AD for Omega and Blancpain and they also pulled their license in the last several years.

And a lot of these brands are not really stand alone companies, but owned by large holding companies so they don't really make their policies. They didn't survive the electronic watch trend and perished, until resurrected by smarter business brains.

Grey Dealer out of Dubai, walking through the price softening on nearly all Rolex models (and noting a few exceptions)

of course this specific grey dealer is “99% certain” that in next 2-3 months all prices are recovering (and so now’s a great time to buy! 😉 )

You really seem to have an attitude about Rolex. Is the only reason you come to this part of the Omega Forum is to just bash Rolex?

I think you are confused. I was simply saying that your assertion was misguided, and that Rolex as a business isn’t interested in snitches. It would be against their own economic interests to do so, and they have said unequivocally that they are not responsible for who gets the watches in the end. If repeating what they have said is bashing in your view, you may need to reconsider your definition of that word.

I would venture that the prices of almost everything that is not a necessity will be softening this year and for several more. We've been borrowing money we don't have to buy things we don't need, and this is true of governments and individuals. And now the bill is finally coming due. Solid, well-run businesses that provide a product of intrinsic value will take losses, but most will survive. Businesses and people will find that the laws of Darwin still apply. Grey Market dealers in Dubai (and everywhere else) will be the least of our problems.

Thanks! My AD told me I was one of the luckiest people in the world to have been allocated one (which I thought was a stretch!) but appreciate that I am fortunate

Congrats.
Walking away from a horrible car wreck is lucky.
Living to 100 is lucky.
Working in a career you love is lucky.
Having a healthy and loving family is lucky.
I think this AD needs a little perspective.

Undoubtedly true 👍

Though English was her second language and the staff at the AD are clearly briefed to make their customers grateful. So I didn't read too much in to it

Are there any Rolex buckles or deployants that can be used with this model? I asked my AD but they weren't very helpful.

Everest bands is a pretty well known supplier of after market straps for Rolex. Im sure there are others also.

Just make sure you swap the bracelet back if you ever take it back to the store as they wont accept your watch unless it has the original bracelet on it.... Welcome to Rolexes view of how your watch should always look!

Congratulations, brilliant pickup!

Exactly what I’m waiting on the call for abet longer than 20 months…

I was offered a date version last month but declined as I know the itch for a no date Sub would still be there. I was told it maybe a few more months waiting but I know I’ll get the piece I want then!

Wear it in good health sir!

What is the evidence for that? Rolex is a private company and doesn't publicize how many watches they produce. Further, they started with random serial numbers around 2010, which makes it impossible to use serials to estimate production numbers. And why would Rolex limit production of certain models? I've read all the theories on that subject. Some are more plausible than others; none are remotely provable.

Random serial numbers??? By definition...surely in order to b a serial number it would need to be issued in series... otherwise it's just a number! Why bother randomising the number unless you're try to hide something like the date of manufacture to push old unsold stock, or how many you've made?... to falsely imply exclusivity perhaps?....more bullshit!

Picked up my beautiful full set 16600 secondhand from a very reputable dealer without all the AD waiting, overpaying and other nonsense. I would never put up with that idiocy for something so unimportant like a ubiquitous watch. Just my very judgmental opinion.

Just curious. 2 years later, how's his 99% certainty works out now?

Probably not really random. More like an equal probability statistical distribution. Most discreet random generators are polynomial based and start with a seed. (Often the local time) If one has the seed, then the distribution can be calculated.

True random distributions have patterns. Like the stars in the night sky, Or the counts on a gieger counter.
