You hit the nail on the head... as @dsacks30 said above, Rolex is now also shutting down for a fortnight (or longer?).
And to think I turned down a no date Sub last week after I finally got the call due to the market drop and uncertainty...I still think secondary prices are going down, though, and hope the Rolex SS situation is starting to normalize.
Well, some people look at SS Rolex watches as a safe heaven for their money, but in the end, these are NOT rare watches... so, I tend to agree with you: secondary will tend to come down closer to MSRP for a while. We will see how long flippers can sit on their inventories.
Cheers. None offered. I was toying up whether to ask but didn't in the end. Probably should have but I'm used to being refused discount by Omega so assumed this would be the same.
Well if that was bad, now it's going to be even worse!! https://usa.watchpro.com/breaking-n...8an0FJgI8bV28rxqB9fnhfcTPkGBK2mWsg3f6qIhLJWZc
Out of curiosity, did you see more Rolex selections available? In the recent past, the showcases were pretty sparse of any Rolex watches.
Some AD have something but at best you might find an Air King, an Explorer or a milligaus.....if you are reaaaally lucky.
Folks, I am happy to report that I have indeed stuck by my principles, but was fortunate to get a call from my AD today! I managed to make it there on time tonight before they would close for at least the next two weeks due to COVID-19 rules, and so, I am able to confirm that my memento celebrating James Cameron’s “DeepSea Challenger” has “surfaced”!!! (Hang in there @larryganz , I am sure your turn will come up soon!!). By the way, I had no clue that the sub had been damaged in a fire!! Photo from National Geographic site . Anyhow. Going back on topic, my partner at the AD confirmed that there has not really been any uptick in deliveries of SS models overall... and as we know, it won’t get better with the factory closed for at least two weeks.
I've noticed that prices are already starting to soften at the used dealers, by about 10% off their premium prices. I'm sure this will only continue until we start to see discounts rather than premiums.
I stay in touch with my SA at Ben Bridge, who says the store didn't get a single James Cameron in 2019.
Are you saying that Rolex will defy the laws of supply and demand? When there's no demand, prices will fall. There will be discounts. How much of a discount depends on how long the economic shutdown lasts. I think this will be long and will likely be worse than 2008.
