If the sellers are unrelenting in price I suspect they are turning over inventory. Either that or they are masochists who search out and buy these New/Unworn watches with little chance of getting the asking price. That would not be a good business model.
Okay - so I say “unrelenting” in the abstract since I don’t contact the sellers and document the realized prices. But abstractly list prices have been on the rise for awhile.
What I’m agreeing with is the fact that a quick search of Chrono24 shows 4,500 Rolex Submariner Date models (all years and materials). Somehow that seems, to me at least, there is plenty of supply.
I speculate there are other forces at work outside of supply and demand. Like unspoken collusion that the investment should rise year over year. I can not pinpoint what but it simply begs the question:
Why do prices continue to rise even though there is so much supply out there?
And just dwelling on the shear numbers for sale for one more post...there’s only 471 Timex listed for sale on Chrono24. Where’s the supply/demand prices on these???
They should either be 10x the price of a Rolex OR only 3-4 people want to buy one.
As I was scrolling through thousands of stainless GMTs for sale on the internet, that nagging question kept at me.
I just stopped by my AD and he assured me Rolex is now cranking them out, and demand should start getting met. I told him that was odd since I haven’t gotten a call from him on any of them...
BACK OFF, MAN -THERE IS ONLY ROOM FOR ME AND SOUTHTEXAS!
Thr AD can’t be THAT magical!
(perhaps we need a central Texas meetup...)
My dear departed grandma always said, 'there is always room for one more'. Texas is a big place. And a Rolex is colloquially known as a Texas Timex, should be plenty to go around if Rolex is now cranking them out.
No BS: as you were typing your response, I just got a text message from a friend of mine in Houston (not a watch guy), which text reads: “hey man, a coworker of mine wants to buy her husband a submariner for his birthday - you know where she can get the best price?”
Maybe @southtexas can help her out too!
Purely anecdotal but if you look at the FS section here and at places like DSW there are suddenly a lot of brand new, sealed Subs on the market.
