·The "cannot unsee" part for me is sadly the overlapping chronograph subdials. It is such a terrible flaw in my opinion 🙁

i'm not a big fan of overlapping sub dials either. reminds me of that carnival game were you try and cover up the circle.
can't say i'm surprised to see unique colors.....boom

·It actually doesn’t bother me that much. Zenith has been overlapping the sub-dials for quite some time on various models (both vintage and modern). I get that some people can’t stand it but I personally don’t have an issue with it.
My point is that in this case it compromises part of the complication too much for me to accept. That Zenith has done so before doesn't make it any better. On the original - the last of your examples - none of the legibility of the hour counter has been lost. Why couldn't they just have done so again? A concession to form over function IMO and an effective way of saying that they don't care about those people who actually use their watches for other purposes than fashion statements.
The second example you posted is exceedingly bad.

·I like the overlapping sub dials in a single colour, but not the ones with mixed colours.

·Style is a subjective and intentional element of the design process. Overlapping sub-dials are not really a flaw but a Zenith design queue that goes back to 1969 when the El Primero was introduced. It may not appeal to all EP buyers but the A386 is a pretty iconic watch in the Zenith community. To hedge their bets, Zenith has always provided lots of choices in their model range with non-overlapping sub-dials. I have 2 vintage EPs and although neither has overlapping sub-dials, that is a budget factor more than a style preference on my part.
