I have seen several watches for sale across the forums and they say it has a mark because hit a door that daub. An so many that look so worn . I have a citizen that my daughter gave me two years ago for Father’s Day , and there are no marks and I wear it everyday even at work . Just don’t get it

Hmmm your handle is "Jobless" that may have something to do with your watch not being scratched? 😉

Some people are just more clumsy, like me, and I work in a workshop. My Seamaster have plenty of scratches, welding spatter and what not. Some of it is just bad luck, but most is just stupidity on my part.

I have worn watches while working in the garden and various remodeling projects without touching my watch. But I will hit that same watch while walking past a door. Usually it's just a scratch on the crystal.

I didn't understand it either until I started doing it. It's a real thing. I can't explain it. The first time I did it I was both surprised and annoyed that I was one of those guys who walked into a door. How could that be? I suspect I am more conscious of my watch when around things that might damage it. Or just a klutz.

You’ll get it when you put a scratch, ding, dent, gouge, scuff or some combination of them on your watch. Since you wear it daily, trust me, it WILL happen. It’s just a matter of time.

I have knocked off the bezel of my Vertex M60 Aqualion and hit my Glashütte Original SeaQ on the kitchen counter so hard that a spring bar failed. The watch hung in the other spring bar (had it on a nato strap). I also dropped it on the floor some months ago giving it a ding.

My Marathon GSAR has also been with me on offshore inspection giving it a few dings. So yes, I understand that some watches sold are a bit roughed up

Is that rig a substation in the distance?

I try to wear something that can be banged around if I have to do field work. Mostly (90% of the time), I am an office load. Without trying to pat myself on the back, during holiday coverage, I try to pick up the slack from those who have young families at home. As such, I actually have to work-work at times 😲 (oh the horror!).

Here I am checking some welds inside a package boiler drum, probably wearing a CWC or something. Kinda hard to tell:

Nevertheless, even my nicer watches get banged around. However, I'm in the "buy them to wear them" crowd. I just wear the more durable watches when I know I have to leave the office.

Sorry for the highjack, but credit is due to the two welders who went into that drum for an entire shift, to weld plugs in. Department heads can make two of our company highest awards per year. These two got the award from the QA Dept for 2021:

Do you need glasses? Maybe your watch is actually dinged up. I'm kidding, but only kinda-- I used to wear my Milguass everywhere, including to many construction sites. I thought it still looked brand new. Until I took a good pic of it and zoomed into the photo...

EDIT: added pic

Yup 😀 Damn hot that day, the CTV was like an oven, the damn life vest had me absolutely cooking and even though there was almost no wind, there was a steady rocking back and forth from some sea swell dying down; I ended up barfing over the side with my colleague laughing like crazy 😁

But what are you on to just F up a watch . Ok close the thread down I’m done .

My company builds large, barge able structures. We chased some of the offshore wind substation opportunities for a number of years. After a while it seemed like all the real players had plans to bring most of the major hardware in from Europe, so we moved to other opportunities.

As a Maritime Academy grad who spent some time on and under the water, I'm going to have to give you a tsk tsk for hurling. 😀

All in jest buddy, it happens to the best of us.

Thanks for making this tread. Its an interesting topic We all think we are cool with our banged up tool watches, but we too hurt inside after each new scratch.

Scratch at 40 on the bezel annoys me every time I see it….🤔
