How to clean Modern Speedy

The bracelets are pretty easy to clean as well. It is the watch head of the Speedy that I was worried about, since the water resistance is less than 100m.

It looks I don't have much to worry about though, so long as I don't leave the watch sitting in water like I do with my other watches.

I've never used a rubber strap to be honest. Just metal bracelets and an occasional leather strap. I will have to try one one day!

Well as long as you don’t go down to 51m and start brushing you should be ok! Wait, I forgot the safety margins so let’s add say another 10m and make it 60m water resistant.
I really never get why a manufacturer tells you what it’s rated to yet some still think they know better and make their own ratings up! Oh and then go on forums asking if it’s ok to shower with etc. Some do! You could even dive recreationally with a Speedmaster Pro. I’ll probably now hear from someone banging on about dynamic pressure while swimming / diving etc or the pressure increase due to a power shower........
As soon as I can travel again I’ll be diving with mine. Have been swimming with it for over an hour at a time already and it’s managing 😉
I just found out that using an electric toothbrush and some shower gel gets to all the crud a lot easier and quicker than a manual brushing 😀

I read through this thread, and my main question is why is pouring cement worth mention? It is essentially just cutting open a bag and dumping out the sand-like material. It's nowhere near as hazardous to a watch as gardening. Now I could see how pouring concrete would be notable, as there is fine and course aggregate bouncing around, lots of metal tools, etc. -- but just pouring cement is a head-scratcher for me... BTW, I did search the forum for info on this but came up empty-handed. 😁

😁

We seem to share the same pet peeve...I can't tell you how many times I did this with younger engineers when they would talk about "cement" and I would say "You mean concrete?"

If I actually designed cement sidewalks, etc. for clients like they asked, they would likely turn around and sue me when they saw the results.

Yeah, that's half my time these days.
...Largely because I have a lot of government clients.

Nice! I like that. I’ll probably put it under running water and use the Dawn and toothbrush as with other watches

After doing some research, I realize I made a mistake.

I meant concrete, a concrete driveway to be exact.

5 pages?? 😲 With 36 replies form the OP? 😲😲😲

With all due respect to the OP, is the the topic of cleaning a watch, winding a watch, wearing it in the shower, riding a bicycle with your watch, golfing with you watch, cooking with your watch, Rolex vs. Omega etc....of such importance on a watch forum?

Ok, I agree, there are some hardass members here, I just ignore them. But these utterly superficial topics will certainly bust everyone's balls. I feel like the OP stoking the flames of....condescension if there is such a thing?? Sounds weird but it certainly looks like he's suckered many into just that. For what? A "How do I clean my watch" thread? Maybe a sticky for "Superficial and Meaningless Horological Posts"?

Sorry @schoolboy , and I feel your pain, but this isn't the kind of contribution that will add any significance to this hobby or anything of value to the OF. I hope you understand this.

Cheers,

Ps: my opinion only...

So we can all agree to forget about your post about your brand new speedy messing up then?

I don't know why you say "we."

I don't think you are a representative of the rest of the Omega forum.

I would be glad if you yourself forget about that post, all my posts, and forget that I exist.

I received helpful information on that thread, and am very thankful for it.

I am still monitoring my watch, and if it happens again, I know how to describe it and have some reference to use as my part of my argument thanks to this forum.

Please don't bother replying to this post, for I will more than likely ignore anything else you post and try to attack me with/about.

Thanks.

It’s strange that watch forums get people so uptight. I used to post on watchuseek for nearly 10 years and just got sick of the bickering and repeat questions that have been asked so many times before, and answered! I came back here purely to investigate strap options namely Uncle Seiko and thankfully some nice people have already posted the info.
I’m a member on motorcycle forums and this sh1t never happens. Sadly 1 day’s worth of watch crazies has reminded me why I don’t bother anymore.

I wonder what's next 😁
Probably something along the lines of:
“How to reignite the spark with your Speedmaster after the honeymoon phase is over”
😝

I think one thing this forum has going for it that some others don't are the numerous pinned posts with FAQs in them.

TimeZone's Omega forum is all "look at my new toy!" and not much of substance.

Because he is not alone?

Just a thought. However a big boy can take it as well as dish it out. He is a big boy. Can you be a big boy too?
