How often do you see the 3861 in the wild?

I work in tech and see my fair share of Rolex sports models, but the sapphire Speedmaster 3861 seems almost ubiquitous. I see it in both the black and white configurations and feel it is this era’s Datejust in terms of how often I see it. Interestingly, I’ve never seen the hesalite 3861 when out and about. Before the 3861 was released, I only ever saw a single Speedmaster in the wild.

I suspect tech workers have a greater interest in NASA than some other industries might, which could explain why I see so many. I don't live near a finance hub, but read that Rolex and JLC are still big in that industry.

Omega really hit a home run with this one and it’s easy to see the draw - an icon that is readily available, versatile, robust, and priced competitively.

Obligatory pic from an OB visit last year.

I don't think I ever have. People know what mine are but just don't see any out and about. I have four 3861s.

Very rarely actually, except my own. I see much more PO's and SMP300 in the wild. This is in Germany.

You see your own in the wild? How unusual is that?

I had a work colleague back in the mid-70's who had a Speedmaster, but I've never seen another one in the wild. Of course I'm not actively scanning for them, either.

I see on average 1 per year and those were 1861s. I've only ever seen one 3861 the other day in a jewelry shop window.

Not exactly the data point you were looking for but I definitely see more Moonswatches than Speedies.
Makes me wonder....
I probably see less than 5 a year (Speedmasters in general) and I AM actively scanning for them lol.

Weirdly never. Other than in a watch store, I've never seen a current Speedy. I've seen a few older ones and plenty of Seamasters. And yes a bunch of MoonSwatches too.

If the internet is the wild, I always see the same rolex watches chasing likes.

On the other hand, if the street is the wild I haven't seen a moonwatch in months. There are plenty of moonswatch worn by men and women.

Same here. Can't think of a time I've ever seen a 3861 in the wild. I see plenty of other interesting non-smart watches around.

Since I happen to be wearing mine today, obligatory pic:

I have a friend that collects Speedmasters. Whenever I see him he’s always wearing one and I know he owns a 3861. I have a hesalite Speedmaster 3861.

I see them every so often. However, Seamasters seem to be the most popular as I see them quite often.

Omega's are rare in my circle, I have an A11 50SS and an external in-house colleague has a 3861 on an artem strap.

Being in NYC, the finance capital of the world, I see Subs all over the place. I have yet to see a Speedmaster. The only time that I see a speedy in NYC is whenever I glance at my watch in the mirror

In my opinion, Mr. Federer is the best ambassador for the brand. I also think that the marketing team dropped the ball with that reference, in this case.

I've only ever seen one in the wild, at the grocery store.
