Saw a Rolls Royce Cullinan yesterday. What a waste of space where a perfectly proper Rolls could have been ...

I don't have to worry about cars. I don't own one.
As a pedestrian you should worry about cars, otherwise you might end up under one

A bit late to the party, but my take on why all these sports car manufacturers are producing SUVs is to broaden their target audience. Many of them can't stay profitable by selling sports cars only, so they need to diversify their product line up. I remember when Porsche first brought out the Cayenne. I thought it was sacrilege. But I guess it's either that, or no Porsche car company at all. It's a bit like people criticizing Omega for having too many different watches in its line up compared to Rolex.

Spotted a rather rich dude in business class on my plane to Japan with a Tiffany PP Nautilus 😗

You know they are rich when the greeter is on the aerobridge as soon as you get off the plane…… I had to settle for a driver with a name card once I cleared customs…..😁😁

A least you had a name card. I have never had anyone to greet me but I often thought it would be funny to go to one of the people with the name cards and present myself as that person.

Probably wouldn’t be actually funny though…. 😵‍💫

First time I got a name card at a airport I thought I had made it…Asked for and have kept the name card to this day..😁😁

On the present yourself as that person……I have never had anyone ask me for ID to prove who I am…😗

In one job I had to cover the whole USA & Canada frequently going to regional offices I had not visited before, so I got quite a few hastily scrawled name cards. The Seattle office was different though, I went there a lot and all the old hands knew me, but they would send a new junior to pick me up from SEA-TAC. No name card though, the recognition signal was they would be holding up a six-pack of my favourite local beer Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve 😎

But what's the long term plan? the limo driver thinks you're Mr. X and drives you to the hotel where Mr. X is booked. You pay for his room? Meantime, Mr. X has called the hotel and asked where the heck is his driver. If you even want to pay for his room, the hotel will notice that your credit card isn't in the name of Mr. X. I can't see anything but annoyance all around for the driver, Mr. X, the hotel. Even you.

Maybe there's a nice bar at Mr. X's hotel.

Get to the desk and hope there's vacancy. If you even want to stay there.

Perhaps the airport is a ways out of town, a long expensive ride in a vomit encrusted cab, when the alternative is a nice limo ride into town…. So you get to the hotel in a comfortable limo, hop out at Mr X’s hotel and then instead of going in you catch a cab and have only a short cheaper vomit encrusted cab ride to you hotel.

Now before anyone starts, I have never done this nor am I ever likely to, not because I live on a high moral plateau, no because I rarely fly… I despise airports, don’t mind the actual plane bit, but the rest is just such a drag.

Just the other night, out for a lovely family dinner ti celebrate my wife’s birthday. Fortunately it was the end of our meal when a guy sat down at the next table wearing what an instantly saw was a 90s Coke GMT… well my wife saw my eyes land on that watch an she smiled/rolled her eye.
Yup, 2 min later I was at his table chatting away! Can’t help myself. See watch, must engage!

I was in Europe this summer and saw quite a few luxury watches in the wild, especially at airports. I managed to snap photos of these two to show my brother who's also into watches (hopefully not creepy of me?!).

An Explorer on a flight from Lisbon to the Algarve, and a Nautilus on a flight from Madrid to NYC. Also remember a Santos de Cartier on a Canadian at a cocktail bar in Lisbon. And a Rolex GMT of some type at a restaurant in Madrid. Also a Jupiter at a cocktail bar in NYC .

...um kind of. That second (potential crotch shot) photo could have possibly got you into a seriously risky situation if someone had seen you taking it...

Agree. I wouldn't have been so ballsy taking photos like that 😁

I was at a pool party over the weekend. I wear my Speedmaster Pro all the time, including to the party (I wasn’t swimming.) A woman was chatting with her friend and looked over and said, with an accent, “lovely watch”. I asked if she was a watch person and she said she was, had worked for Omega, and owned a vintage 1948 Omega. We discussed wearing nice watches in the wild, agreeing that owning a watch as a “safe queen” didn’t make sense.

I explained that my only other watch was an IWC Portofino, and she said she’d also worked for IWC. Quite an unusual career, she’s now in tech in Los Angeles.

It’s a rare occasion when I come across watch people outside of boutiques and dealer’s showrooms.

I did a triple take a few weeks ago when I saw a woman (tourist) in town wearing (what looked like) a Nautilus on the tram.

my better half, who noticed too, even made fun of my lustful glances after we got out
