How often do you see ANY nice watch in the wild?

In the elevator at my parking garage just now, the gentleman next to me was wearing a polo shirt, casual trousers and a solid gold Nautilus -- as best I could see the model attached here. And then he got into his Lamborghini and drove off. (Notice the license plate: SAFE.) You get to see some wild stuff here in Hong Kong.

It's very rare that I see any real nice watches out and about, I worked at a local hospital for 3-4 years, and only once, towards the end of my career there, saw an older couple wear a couple Two Tone Datejust. Most of the time it was very cheap Seikos or Timex.

Not technically "the wild" but I was able to handle the new Reverso Minute Repeater at the Jaeger-LeCoultre "Sound Maker" event in New York last night 😎 It's absolutely amazing - I have a short vid of the minute repeater in action on my IG story

That is AMAZING. Love JLC.

My boss just turned up wearing a 5168G. More than a little jealous.

My audiologist (what? I hear you say, or not::facepalm1::) was wearing a SS rolex datejust with pink dial today, at €100 a visit she needs to spend it somewhere😉. Nice watch.

A rolex president full gold (possibly women's model - but looks pretty chunky). Must be a 30k watch?

Lucky me! I don't like it at all!

At a watch boutique, a gentleman close by was talking about the watch on his wrist. I politely asked if I could have a close look and without hesitation, he took it off and handed me his vintage Rolex Daytona saying it’s better to hold and feel the watch. What an awesome gentleman! Have had a great minute being up close and personal to, I believe, Ref 6239!

With a thread started in 2017, I should say these days it’s more a question of how often I’m ever out in the wild in the first.

Last night I went to a rooftop bar in Manhattan. I was there for about two hours and able to snap only a fraction of the wrist candy present before it got dark. About 95% were Rolexes (two of them vintage), but also captured Speedies, a Grand Seiko, etc. I saw at least one AP RO and two Panerai and several I couldn't id at a glance. This is a very typical representation: it's rare to see anything too exotic or unusual but very, very common to see the popular mid-level stuff.

I'm surprise nobody asked you why you where taking pics of everyones watch!!

Not very often at all. I let my 13yo daughter where my SS sub just so I could see it while I’m wearing the new omega

About two weekends ago I meet a guy wearing a speedmaster. He said he owned it about 20 years and he bought it since he was working at NASA at the time and it was the watch to wear at work! Think he was a bit surprised when I said I owned several speedmasters though I wasn't wearing any of them at the time.

They legit have a Speedmasters shrine at the NASA Space center museum lolol

They had another prototype somewhere in the exhibit and it looked like the MACH I prototype without a dial I think.

All I see are Apple watches where I live.

One time at the six flags water park I legit saw a dude wearing a coke, we both looked at each other’s wrists and nodded real quick as we went to the regular water slides. My recent New York trip though, were just a bunch of Richard Millie’s left and right. I saw an older seamaster 300m at the ferry bathroom but it was quick and awkward to say anything there in the first place lol

I was actually doing it stealthily--would have been a hell of a lot easier if I just walked up and asked if I could snap a pic...

I spotted a Rolex GMT and a brand new Datejust 41 at the pumpkin patch with the kids last weekend. We live too close to Silicon Valley...

My school had an open house for prospective students and families last weekend. As a department head I was there to answer questions and so forth. I spotted at least three Rolex Datejusts, an AP, and a Patek on the wrists of some parents. Good thing too - if they can pay the tuition, I get to keep my job.

Tonight, I joined 5 colleagues at a live awards ceremony. Our company was a finalist in one of the categories, all sponsored by our province’s tech industry. Anyway, it was the first event most of us have attended in 18+ months; other than Zoom meetings, I’d never met our COO or CEO. As we all raised a celebratory glass, I looked down at my COO’s wrist. She was sporting a Tudor Black Bay 36.

Naturally, I commented on her watch and she was pleased I knew about her Tudor. It turns out her husband loves collecting watches, and she loves wearing larger pieces, so he bought her one of her own. Clever Lad. 😉

The best part for me was seeing that fugly snowflake hand up close and personal. And you know what? It’s awesome in person.

Just saw a Hublot Big Bang in 18K rose gold in the elevator of my building… so nope, no nice watches today.

Saw a cool Longines yesterday in the same lift, it was pretty nice.

A few weeks ago, while my wife and I were staying at a nice hotel, I spotted, on the wrist of a gentleman sharing the elevator, a mid 2000's 39mm blue dial AP Royal Oak. He said he bought it new about 15 years ago. I do not see much more than Rolexes in the wild.
It looked like this:

The cashier at our local booze merchant was sporting a Laco Flieger today. After I commented on it he noticed my Speedy then mentioned he organized a number of GTGs pre-pandemic, and is hoping to start up again soon.

Who says drinking is bad for you?😁
