How often do you see ANY nice watch in the wild?

Can someone explain the dress watch on nata strap. Noticing this more and more. Why would this be a thing?

I think it's so the owner can easily change the straps to match his mood without having to worry about spring bars.

Please don't take this attempted explanation as an endorsement 😀

I live in SF, finding someone with some nice timepiece on the wrist is pretty much a Challenge::facepalm1::

Spend more time in the business districts, on my way to work today I saw three or so decent-looking watches (from afar, they did not look like Daniel Wellingtons or Apple Watches)

I’m a Canadian, I was in England, but I’m still going to “plead the fifth...” as our American friends might say. 😉

We're in London this week for my wife's birthday. I'm amazed how many OB's there are here. We've passed by at least three within a few miles of our hotel on Regent Street. The closest one at home is 4 hours away. Still can't believe the Boston OB closed.

For a few years before I got my Speedy I often wore a cheap quartz at work that has orange hands and numbers on a black face. My colleague often told me how much he loved that watch and how good it looked. Fast forward a few years and I wear my Speedy everyday, and he has not commented once 🤔.
Maybe it’s the orange - if I got a Speedy II Ultraman maybe he’d notice...
Here they are, side by side

Yep, I can see why. Sorry 🙁

Same issue in San Francisco - there's so much money here and so much luxury products, but the closest OB is in a shitty mall north of Sacramento two hours away. So, in order to pick up my Speedy Tuesday not only is it a nice long drive, but I have to walk through a Nordstrom and pass all the Hot Topics and Old Navys and such.

Hell, even the Tourneau at the big dumb mall in the city has an entrance right near the street

I was in a meeting today. 5 of us. I'm wearing my PO. Colleague rocked up in his new Panerai which I've not seen before. The marketing director we were meeting had a new Santos. Then the CEO and his deputy joined us. Both sporting Patek 5712/1A's. Gulp.

I was at the DMV yesterday. While waiting in line I saw a young kid wearing a speedy pro. I tried to make a comment, but too many lines and too much chaos to try. I find that those that wear a speedy pro will generally know what your talking about when you say nice speedy. I use to comment on other watches, but that mostly lead to stares like what the hell are you talking about. I also use to comment when I saw someone wearing a Seamaster. Something like nice Aqua Terra, but that too never worked out. So unless I see a speedy pro (won't comment on a speedy auto even, must be a pro) or a higher end vintage watch, I won't comment.

Totally what I do...I don't watch the TV shows but only the wrists of the people in the show. Get a lot of scolding because of that!

Spotted a Patek Aquanaut on the gent’s wrist at the table next to me during breakfast yesterday.

Didn’t take any creepy “up-wrist” pics like some of you though, so you’ll have to take my word. 😜

Its been an interesting week. After going ages without seeing anything decent in the wild one of our sales guys, who likes watches but knows nothing about them and usually shows up to work in tasteful "Fossil" grade watches showed up at a meeting wearing a lovely white Speedmaster. He bought it while in Hong Kong on business a few years back and wears it once in a while. Its just another watch to him, yes it cost more, but its just a nice watch. Cool guy, he still drives a Triumph Spitfire to work when the roads aren't salty.

Then one of the guys comes back from the orient with a new Seiko diver, huge thing, Japanese market, beautiful... (prick! too big for my taste but still) Anyway, he gave the Seiko to his son (works at the next desk) and kept the Rolex for himself. Rolex says I?!? Yup... bought on the street for about $50, just for laughs. Good looking fake and he's okay with that. I asked for a closer look so he took it off and handed it over. It had stopped a half hour earlier and we couldn't get it to go again... I had to laugh. He didn't seem to think it was as funny as I did.

Finally, I was down at "the residence" visiting Mom, we try to do that 3 or 4 times a week, and I happened to notice the old dude in the wheelchair next to me was wearing two watches. A proper enthusiast I thought so I leaned over for a closer look, What looked like a 50s Tresor on one wrist and a huge solid lump of dressy Rolex gold on the other. So yeah... the man likes his watches. Those two are likely worth more than my car!

Well, I’ve only traded shrubbery, my clients prefer them to hedges.

But I did own a PP 6157 once upon a time.

Pretty good watch spotting day today as I strolled through a part of Copenhagen. During 10 minutes I saw a Speedy Moon, a vintage Speedy Mark II, a Seamaster 300M on the wrist of a barista who served me great great coffee, and a Submariner two-tone.

Is an all gold Ebel 1911 considered a nice watch by this watch BORED?
