OK Fratelli, pop quiz: 39.7 or 42 millimeters — that is the question! Of course, you’ve already seen the watches in the picture above. But I think those measurements alone would already give away which watches we’re talking about. Yes, we’re discussing the Omega Speedmaster. And to be more specific, the First Omega in Space […]

The Spiralwinder caseback on the FOiS is a game changer with regard to its wearability. Sits so much better on the wrist due to the reduced height. Basically fixed my one main gripe with the FOiS 😀

Well, I went the other way, selling on my Pro and picking up the FOIS (two of them, in fact). To me, it is a more beautiful and distinctive watch, and I can't say that I found the Speedy Pro to be hugely more "sporty," but the new 3861 hesalite is a fine watch, and I can see the appeal of the upgraded bracelet. I have never found the FOIS to be unmanageably or even uncomfortably tall on my 7" flat wrist.

IMO, this is a long-form version of those countless forum threads that begin with a "Why I sold X for Y and am Immensely the better for it." and proceed to justify the swap until the decision is ratified by a majority. Don't see this as worthy of the Speedy Tuesday headline spot, but perhaps that's just me.

My FOIS only got the occasional wrist time a month before the Spiralwinder caseback. Now I wear it several times a week. It's so much more comfortable to wear than my Snoopy 50.

As an owner of a FOIS and a Speedmaster Professional, i love them both and i never can't deside if i had to keep only one of them, which i should choose.
These 2 watches are the most lovely watches of my collection.

Regarding the height of the Fois, it was never annoying for me.

As @scapa referred, there are also many enthusiasts who have replaced the Professional with the FOIS.

Questions - does the second hand of the Speedmaster sweep during normal use ? or does the second hand stay in the fixed 12.00 position until the stop watch function is started ?

I had a Tag where the second hand remained at 12.00 unless activated, and wondered whether the modern Speedmasters are the same.

Thanks

It’s not the ‘seconds hand,’ it’s the chronograph hand. It stays at 12 o’clock until activated by depressing the top pusher.

Real-time seconds are recorded on the ‘small seconds’ dial at 9 o’clock.

All Speedmasters operate this way, modern or vintage. As your Tag did.

And on that vintage-feeling Flat Link, it also moved about quite a lot

Moved a lot? You don't say....looks like 4 inches of slack in the bracelet
