What the title says...

Just curious if I maybe should consider "upgrading"(?) from the 2500...

Thanks for the info.

The one measurement left out of the spec sheat on Omegas site, and one of the most important for daily use. Too bad, but thick lumps of steel like the PO doesnt give any bragging points.

The 2500 is 14.2mm and the 8500 is 15.7mm.

It might not seem like much but the difference in thickness is considerable. Especially as 2500 is already bordering on what is the upper limit in my opinion.

Why bother upgrading? The 2500, especially the "d" version, is a really good movement.

It is quite considerable, the 8500/8900 look like tanks while the 2500 has a sleekness exotic look.

Here is a 8900 on my wrist for a example:

And my 2500

Are there keys to look for to verify if the 2500 is the D version? I see plenty of ads from 2500's just no details on a/b/c/d. I saw a 2500 for sale on here and was getting pushback on my questions about the pictograph card or a/b/c/d version.

The date window is the biggest tell, C v D, The font is completely different. For quickness, the tail on the '1' is a D. The C doesn't have that
I own the 2500 and the 8500, The 2500 still gets FAR more wear.

I miss my 2500 PO. I love the blue dial of the 85xx, but thickness is a killer for me. I tried two iterations of the blue PO (45 titanium, and 43.5), but ultimately sold both due to wearabilty (thickness).

Not my PO, but is for sale (https://www.chrono24.com/omega/omega-seamaster-planet-ocean--id21725359.htm). No mention of A/B/C/D version of the 2500 only 2201.50.00 as a model.

Anything in this ad that would tell what version?

It could be misleading. It has been said here before that the date wheel could have been replaced on a C.
There's also a range of serial numbers that could be indicative of a D, I believe it needs to be 852xxxx and above.

But in the end the only sure way is to see the movement.

I see your point. Mine is a nice 2500D, so it may not really be an (worthy) upgrade after all...

GENERALLY, but no guarantees, watches with serial numbers of 8525xxxx and up are likely to be 2500D. 2012 and later.

In any case, I think the S/N is a bit safer than the datewheel font alone as an indicator...

@Archer can perhaps confirm?

Yes it has been mentioned, laboriously, but 9 times out of 10, it's the D.
And yes, for 100%, you are correct, show us the movement

Just checked , i got a 2500C movement then , SN81... 2209.50.00 . Has been working great since 2007. The new PO's are indeed chunky . I can get away with it ( 19cm wrist ) but it is too big for most people .
