How fragile is the 1039 bracelet really?

Not very fragile at all.

Replace the springs.

Like all bracelets, keep it clean.

Yes, they are fine for regular wear.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I did end up buying an 1175, but it was more about price than concerns about the robustness of the 1039. This image from @pdxleaf showing how similar the two bracelets looked helped my decision making processes.
