How do you ship and insure watches?

Nope they were already part of UPS. My rep told me that they felt that UPS was too loose with procedures to trust with watches or jewelry.

After several receipts of sig required shipments that were left on a doorstep(in one case in the rain), I avoid UPS for all but Express.

My local Fedex are a bit quick with the "missed delivery" notice(they don't wait more than a few secs)..but they have never left a "sign for" package on the doorstep. Quite frankly, USPS seems the most diligent to follow rules AND provide good customer service. They'll even call me to see if I am home before they leave the door.

I just have the packages held for me at one of the local Fedex sites. Works like a charm.

I've never had a problem with the UPS option, but then I've shipped two-day most of the time. Wouldn't use regular ground service with a watch anyway

One thing I do find interesting is shipping into the UK - when the UK is selected, the UPS option disappears and you have to use FedEx, or ship via DHL / other carrier and insure separately with PP. Anyone know why that might be - maybe UPS has skimpy service in the UK?

Reading throUgh this thread, had anyone used CGI to insure?

Shipping a piece overseas and it seems like USPS with express only insures up to $2,500.

Does ParcelPro work for shipments originating outside the US?

yes it does. I've shipped watches to Singapore from the UK and from Italy via Parcelpro.

Parcelpro is awesome!

Yes. You can set up a shipment from most any country (with some limitations) and email the shipping label to the shipper.

Interesting post. I'm interested in sending one of my watches to LA watchworks to get the hands matched to the dial and a factory spec case polish (their work is the best I've seen). I'm in France and the problem for me is insuring the watch without getting hit for customs fees both sides. Would Parcelpro insurance sent by FedEx be a safe way to get my watch there and back? Thanks

I have a Parcel Pro account that I have never used. Is it possible for me to insure a watch I have bought in the US for 5k and then just have it sent by the seller through FedEx?

Is the insurance declared to the courier?

Anyone done this?

By the way: Is there any comparable service residing in the EU?
I know, I could technically use Parcel Pro, but using an service so fare outside your own jurisdiction I would consider as a quite big risk itself. In case of a dispute there would be pretty much nothing you could do.

I heard parcelpro no longer ships for private individuals. By "heard" in this case I mean there's a topic on it on tz-uk.

Also sent them an email a month or two ago. Received no reply..

Yes, this is possible via ParcelPro, but you need to make a phone call and give them the tracking number (also might be able to be done on the website for FedEx, not 100% sure)

ParcelPro specializes in jewelry / watches and other valuables, and I'm not aware of others who do so though I am sure they exist if you take a quick trip through Google. Parcelhero is in the UK and allows insurance up to 20,000 GBP, but I know nothing of them

Parcelhero does have a huge exclusion list though. It contains items like jewelry and "items containing glass" - even vehicle parts. I would not use it without having a written statement that watches are covered.

So yes, I would still be interested in a service which insures parcels independently of the carrier - I haven't found one in the EU so far.
