How do some sellers justify their descriptions.

This came up on my daily eBay search.

Apparently the dial is ‘Omega factory original’, just ‘professionally redone’.

This is utterly ridiculous. The term “factory original’ is what many collectors use to highlight when a dial body/print has not been altered or repainted. Now scum bag sellers are accosting the term for redone dials?!

Uhm, maybe the redial has been done by Omega service?

It hasn’t.

Even then, that’s not what’s implied by “factory original”. That would be “factory refinished”.

The word play used by some sellers to deliberately allow inaccurate but favourable inference of their item really pisses me off.

"Dial is Omega Factory Original" means: Dial is not plastic made in China (for example) but the original dial of the watch which has been professionally???? repainted lol

::facepalm1:: What else we will read....😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😲😲😲

Yes, I understand your point. I see a lot of odd, inaccurate and obscure descriptions, too. And they don't respond to your messages when you point the problems out...

Absolutely. Like the utterly dishonest seller constantly listing (and seller to poor inexperienced buyers) these monstrosities.
When I’ve asked whether they have refinished dials or pointed out that they have, he either says he doesn’t know as “it’s hard to be certain with these old dials” or ignores the message.

When it's possible, I report the seller and/or the object.

At least they are honest. Many don’t say the “professionally done” bit.

I see no harm in the first advertisement linked here. It is mentioned it is redone and it is a original Omega dial.

I see the argument for saying at least they’re saying it’s been redone when many don’t.

The fact is it’s not factory original so why say it? It’s because it allows some buyers to infer it’s simply been professionally cleaned or similar, like you’d perhaps see with a painting, to reveal the original paint/dial underneath.

One of the things that makes this a hobby, as opposed to just shopping, is that it takes some skill and care to distinguish the silver from the dross.

I think this is a bargain! It says in the ad below that you can use it as a wristwatch, or a whole collection. Maybe I’ll buy it, and then I’m done…

Anything that is sold is subject to overhyped descriptions.....it's done with cars, houses, and everything else. Watches are no different. It's up to the buyer to know his stuff. Don't expect someone else, or a law, to protect you.

How does the seller know it’s the original dial?

Because he bought it as a old patina white dial before he painted it black 😉

No one knows what is original unless they bought the watch new. We have debated this hundreds of times here. The original crown and crystal in FS adds is 7/10 probably not correct if it has had a service.
