How do I turn this balance spring collet?

Ok, this 65 jewel watch is absolutely murdering me. I managed to screw up 2 hairsprings, got 1 that seemingly is not compatible, and now got THIS one that installed/ran at least.

However, beat error is horrible (8ms or so with a fixed stud holder on the bridge), so I went to try to adjust it just to find whatever the heck THIS is. The balance spring is seemingly glued/sot welded to one of the arms and is floating precariously. I tried poking it a bit with screwdrivers and tweezers, but it is just too small to get with any tool. IS there a special tool for this? Anyone know where I could get one?

Please show a picture of the balance cock. You might have an adjustable stud holder.

I don't believe I do? It seems to be 1 piece of metal.

Well then, adjust the roller table.
Ah, hrmph... didn't think about that. I WAS able to move it actually, the solution really seemed to just be 'use a tough more force than I was willing to do". Currently down from ~8ms to 1.1ms in 2 adjustments, still trying to decide whether that is good enough 😁

Urgh, so I got it sub-0.3ms after a couple of tries. BUT it isn't possible to get the hairspring to stay 'flat'. I suspect that Waltham must have used a non-standard hairspring on this one. I'm putting this into the 'bucket of parts-watches' bucket 😁

When I got this, it had exactly the problem: The hairspring sits 'too high' and hits the automatic bridge, causing obvious problems. I thought it was a hairspring problem and screwed it up. I then bought THREE replacement balance-completes (a 721N, which didn't have the proper 'coil' for the regulator, and 2 part 721). I screwed up one of the 721 parts trying to clean the hairspring that arrived dirty(and found the incompatibility with the 721N before installing it on the movement).

THIS confirms to me that Waltham must have used a non-'common' hairspring/balance arrangement with a longer end-post or something.

SINCE I'm now $100 into buying balance-completes for a watch I paid $30 for, that will be worth $50 if I were to get it done successfully, I think I've hit the 'I'm done' line 😀

The Waltham name has been used by countless groups since the years when Waltham folded. Waltham is blameless.

Ima be mad at them anyway, even if it looks like they were Invicta/whatever at this time 😁
