How close did your birth year watch get?

An OF member was recently selling his 1986 (February) moonwatch, which would be within a week or two of my birthday - and I missed out on it, but maybe next time.

Was it sold? I though he decided to keep it in the end in his collection? If we are talking about the same watch...

pretty sure that used to be mine some years ago ! Glad it still has a good home 😀

It came from your neck of the woods, a bit North from you 😉

My birth year is 1979 and this Speedy is too, 3 months my senior. A few of my Seikos are but that’s just a cherry on the cake, not something I hunt for.

Although not a birth year watch I inherited my grandfathers no brand Swiss manual which he was sadly wearing when he suddenly died just a month before I was born. This must have been incredibly tough on my heavily pregnant mother who tells the story that the watch had stopped when he fell but she had it on the mantle piece and when her contractions started, it began to work again. Anyway, I lost the crown fiddling with it as a teen and I’ve kept it in a drawer for another twenty years until recently I decided to pop the back off and low and behold a service date 8/3/79 showing he must’ve just had it returned.

Although the serial number dates it to ‘69, this one was sold within 8 days of my birth.

Wow, that is a very touching story! Keep your Grandfather’s watch in honour!
