Feeling the heat today,

We saw a lot of hot dogs (no pun) in Southport yesterday.
Most seemed to be taking it easy though obviously not cocker spaniels 😀

You're smart to notice his changes and to seek advice. As well meaning as we are, our advice may not be accurate. It's similar to looking for medical advice on WebMD. It may be accurate but not related to your specific issues.

My initial gut reaction to your idea about another dog is that it might make it worse if Franklin is insecure with his position in your pack, which it sounds like he might be.

Does Franklin have a quiet place of his own? Anywhere he can go to be by himself and rest?

There's probably a trigger, either environmental or medical, which will make sense once you discover it. But figuring it out is the hard part, obviously.

Appreciate the insight. Our current house is small, so he does not really have a place to hide out, so to speak. But even if he did, hes always sort of hanging around someone. He does have a crate (he always has) but he never goes in it on his own. And we hardly ever put him in it.
He's always had an issue with "door dashing" meaning anytime someone opens a door, his ass is dashing out of it lol. I've spent many times chasing him down as he seems to think its a game.
Like I said, I really think its the kids. They have definitely changed the energy in the house, and I really think their presence, and his behavior are correlated.
They are not mean or rough with him - in fact the opposite. And he is great with them.
Age changes? Brain chemistry? Get him checked out for health of course but they have things that apparently help with mood and anxiety. We gave my dog something for that seperation anxiety as she started tearing up couch pillows when we were gone. She became a real mess when younger she wasn’t like that.

The vet wanted to put my beloved cat hairy on Prozac Ashe said she was one of the more high strung beings he had ever seen but I knew it was because she was a human trapped in a cats body so I said no she’s been high strung her whole life it’s who she is. But whatever we put my Shepard on helped her sorry I can’t recall the Med but maybe worth a try after ruling out medical issues.

He definitely goes to the vet for his checkups but I've just really never mentioned it.
Luckily, he's not destructive. So I'm happy we don't have that issue at least.
We used to give Max melatonin. He would get so worked up during thunderstorms and that seemed to help. But what really made that dog do a 180 was getting another dog.

It's only been 3 weeks since we lost our boy but we couldn't stand life any longer without a dog.
I still think Staffies are the best dogs in the world but getting another didn't seem right. This is Mickey a 2 1/2 year old Frenchie and he's as mad as a box of frogs.
He's been on the go for 3 1/2 hours including flying over the decking with Polo's old ball.
The bulldog is his friend from the rescue centre, 25kg of muscle who was abused by breeders.
Mickey's brother was also in the home and has been rehomed.

The blue ball was originally Polo's from 2014 and though the rope didn't last long the ball is getting a fresh set of teeth in it.
Polo's old kongbone is also still around but I'm going to have to retire it along with his lead, too many memories.

I think they've completed their apprenticeships and are now full-fledged ruff hikers 😀

Despite his shmooshy face and sleepy look Mickey is an active dog and enjoys his walks.
Of course it hasn't got very warm yet but when it does he won't be out walking mid-day

My friend's German Shepherd Morgan I occasionally dog sit for. They left for a few hours and came home to this. Amazing how these mats just spontaneously combust.

Probably a bad boy that chewed up the mat and ran away 😉
