We are enjoying a weekend city trip in Antwerp, so Neo is staying with his dogsitter who is also a friend of ours, and most importantly with his girlfriend Clarke, 6 months older than him (12yo... Yeah, she is a bit of a cougar)
You go neo! How are his legs doing always good to see him

I had to laugh when I read this, allow me to introduce some relatives… Barney (the ginger) and Rubble.
Our previous pets Cracker (another ginger) and Lionel a ridgeback sadly left us in 2021 and after a 12 month house renovation these guys joined the family. Rubble a 6 yr old 42kg lovely boy was adopted from a family who had lost their pet friendly rental and had to leave Perth looking for work. Barney a crazy dog friendly 1yo cat joined us at the same time. Barney loves rough play and Rubble is careful with him but loves the play

I could probably fill a thread with photos of Max seeking out patches of snow. These are all from last weekend's backpacking trip. You wouldn't know by looking at him, but according to his genetic profile, he is roughly 1/4 Siberian Husky, and he is definitely a snow-dog, 12 months a year. 😁

Little bastard got out at an unapproved time. Right behind him is a cliff he boogies up and down he’s daring me to come and get him as I try to retrieve the kitty

What is it with orange cats. I’ve had a couple in life and everyone has been insane. Are they all one brain cell. RIP Baxter my old buddy[/QUOTE]

Hope Rocky feels more chipper soon @Walrus, could well be the heat making him feel off colour.

OTOH it's never good to have a house plant nibbler, as so many popular plants are toxic to cats. Always worth looking up which ones are safe and which ones aren't.

Madam Poppy is the plant nibbler here chez Casa Reynard. But I gave up on having house plants years ago because the little minx also liked piddling in the pots... 😟
I was always curious why cats (some) eat plants. Their bodies do not require the nutrients. I have read they eat grass as it makes them throw up undigested matter in their stomachs making them feel more comfortable.
My wife is definitely a plant person the only one I know we have that is toxic to cats is the Christmas cactus which they don’t mess with other than knocking it over during fights. Seems like only thing they go after are Fern type plants which aren’t supposed to be toxic but that gets confusing as there are so many different types. I do try to read up on it but I’m not real knowledgeable about plants, and many other things.

Been there, done that. Long ago we decided no more outside on their own, only a truly secure screened in porch. All of ours but one came to us young enough to not miss it. I think. Wilma and Betty are fitting in well and we expect no issues with them. I think. I hope.

Have fun. Good luck

Cats do eat plant matter - when they snack on a mouse or such like, as that's what's in the mouse's digestive tract, and it provides them with some trace nutrients. Of course, with what's considered a standard diet these days, anything that's labelled at "complete" should have everything that they need.

I have one nibbler (Poppy) and one non-nibbler (Lexi), so personal preference comes into it as well. Grass and catnip are the favourites. And my spider plant... A friend has a cat who eats roses...

I'm not much of a plant / garden person, but I do pay attention to what's toxic to cats. All species of lily are the big ones as ingesting the pollen can cause catastrophic kidney failure. Poinsettias are another one to watch out for. Here's a good list of the ones to watch out for:

TBH, I don't mind living without cut flowers and house plants. Means there's more space for books...

Cats!!! Aaaaargh!!! They don't half mess with your head. 🙁

Lexi went missing this morning. She didn't come for her lunchtime chicken, and we thought she was in the garden as she was in all day yesterday. But she wasn't coming when she was called which is very unusual. So start panicking. Where's Lexi? Looked everywhere, house, garage, utility room etc but no cat. In desperation I checked the car. I'm off down to Winchester tomorrow for a flying visit, so I'd put my full tool kit in the boot before toddling off to Tesco for fuel and a few other gubbins.

You guessed it. Lexi was in the boot. And had been since about midday. Whoopssss...

So she'd hitched a ride into town without me knowing she was onboard. Let's just say I dodged a bullet there. And Madam Lexi is NOT best pleased with me...

Did a respectable 8 mile walk today dragging my arthritic hip and knee round.
Stopped at 3 cafes on the route which helped.
The bird is a Kestrel (wife's pic) and although it looks like it's perched on a cable, it was actually hovering looking for food

Our 13 or so year old male cat has started venturing outside. He was scared to death to go outside, although our female cat was always trying to escape.

Both our cats were indoor cats. We made the mistake of letting our female outside once and then she forever wanted back outside, trying to time her escape every time the door was slightly ajar.

We lost her last year. Ever since then he's been especially needy. Our male dog is now his companion, which is probably why the cat started going outside. Mind you, it's not much and we watch him closely.

This photo was just taken of him sitting next to the porch looking and listening to the great outdoors. He reminds me of myself when I was young and had just left my parents and was trying on the world for size.

Now, I am sitting on the porch with glass of wine after a long day of painting in the basement on the anniversary of the moon landing, thinking of where I was in 1969, sitting in our living room with my mom and little brother while my dad was in Vietnam doing god knows what. So me and Romeo, the cat, are just looking out at the big world and listening and feeling the breeze on this lovely evening.

Pets, eh?

A little later ..

I miss SkunkPrince

Often see this fella on local walks. He has a fairly wide range. Very confident / just pads by people and dogs. He did not let my photo attempt put him off the hunt ;0)

Yes and most often (depending on the breed of cat) to help with furballs and the like, it can help with vomiting them up..
But I have loads of plants that are really toxic and even deadly (those ones are completely out of the way or kept in the studio for safety) to cats, fortunately, no one has ever tried to nibble on them, they always get their grass-fix from the garden.
