Thanks to everyone who has sent their best wishes - it means a lot! Just got the call from the surgeon, and she made it through the surgery okay. Still not out of the woods yet as there can be complications post-op, but everything went smoothly given that this was a complicated case. Tonight they will monitor her vitals and make sure she doesn't have any problems, and hopefully tomorrow they will asses how she is neurologically, but they said that after removing the mass of the old disk the spinal cord was now laying back where it should be. 馃憤

Now time for a drink!! 馃榾

Talked to the surgeon this morning and she had a good night - already backing off the pain meds a bit. He said that today they have done some assessments of her mobility, and she is already showing significant improvement compared to before the surgery, so it seems to have been quite a benefit to her. We won't know how completely she will recover for a while yet, but the initial signs are very positive.

Surgeon said she is defying all expectations, and we are working on a plan to discharge and bring her home tomorrow! 馃憤

Well here she is! Back at home again!

Still on some pain meds (plus some others), and you can see we have a harness to steady her when she is up and about, but she is doing okay. Right now just making sure she is comfortable, eating, drinking, and doing her other business. Hopefully over the next few weeks we will start to see real improvement in her mobility. You can get an idea how big this surgery was looking at the incision:

Going to have to keep a very close eye on her for the next while, so that will likely impact how much work I can get done. But very glad she is home again, and hopefully on the road to recovery. Thanks again for everyone's support. 馃憤

Cheers, Al

I do love my little girl. Photography courteous of my wife, who has the talent with the camera and the guitar (and painting and the piano). Still, the little one gets the attention:

Well she is sure enjoying being pampered by dad...only wanted to be fed by hand the first couple of days...

I had to give her a small piece of chicken every so often to keep her eating the kibble. When she started to get full, I had to bribe her with a piece of chicken stuck between 2 kibbles to get her to eat them...nothing but mind games I tell ya! 馃槈

I'll spare you seeing me feed her the wet canned food with my fingers - yes that was gross! She is now thankfully eating out of her bowl again, so the only things I hand feed her now are the various pills - found out that she really likes a nice creamy Brie and it's ideal to hide pills in! 馃憤

She is walking around a bit, but sometimes still struggling. We know this will be a longer road for recovery, but seeing some progress. I am exhausted though...

Tilly is the hardest to feed a pill

until I found the best way was coat it in butter from the careers for these guys in Tasmania. Works a treat everytime now.
