@Walrus ….sorry for your loss. It’s really hard to know what the right answer to medical intervention / quality of life … you went above and beyond. I’m sure she knew that. I did the same, probably went too far, for my last dog, Banzai. When we adopted Nala last year Mrs S and I had to have a long talk about this subject. I’m not sure where we actually landed.

Hairy didn’t make it. Hairy belongs to the ages. My heart is heavy. I know at least one member will take joy in this but I think many of you appreciated hairy. My house has has no pets fir the first time in 3 decades it is a very strange empty feeling. Goodbye hairy, thank you for letting me take care of you all these years. Rest In Peace my furry friend.

sorry to hear. we are such stupid humans who get attached to these little balls of fur who bring us happiness and joy for such a short period of time which always brings sadness, only to have us do it again and again.

Out of the entire house this I would have thought would be one of the most uncomfortable spots for a snooze 🤔

@Walrus: I'm so sorry to hear about Hairy. Your commitment to her was inspiring, and I know that her passing leaves a huge empty place in your household and life.

So the day I put sooper down, the very same day mind you, my (modern 90’s) I think seamaster arrived in the mail so I have hence named it “the sooper memorial watch.
Now despite spending thousands trying to save hairy, I ordered the 2nd edition Brian May Ltd edition. Although I dislike flippers I will admit publicly that I ordered it as I was a bit depressed about the Hairy situation and told my wife if I hung onto it, the watch may help pay off some of hairys bills. In reality I just wanted to order something to distract myself as I was just too bummed out.

The watch arrived the same day the vet told me no more could be done and hairy had to go. Let’s face it this watch isn’t going to make me rich in a year, it’s not a Rolex but I do like limited seikos (some of them) and I don’t know about you but sometimes When I’m dealing with a bunch of negative things even a small watch purchase is a decent distraction. So should I make this Brian May the “Hairy memorial watch” I’m not big into gold tone watches but it may be unique enough to honor her memory (I know we all think our animals are unique)

Only you can decide.

I suspect you already know the answer. Your reaction to the responses of others will likely serve to validate your perhaps unconscious thoughts. So here's my input.

It's a nice looking watch, aside from the circumstances of Hairy's death. If looking at it makes you remember Hairy, then that would be nice in the future when the pain has passed. Of course you will always remember Hairy and likely won't need a watch to prompt you.

The ying/yang of the dial seems appropriate as a memorial. You can't enjoy the love of another without knowing the presence of death and separation. Hopefully, the life of sharing will dominate the pain that is inevitable and will come. As in this dial, the red dominates the dark.

I like gold myself. It's one of the benefits of aging, as an older person can wear gold without seeming pretentious. If you aren't there yet, you'll grow into it.

Good luck with the decision. Hope this helps.

I also hope pictures of Hairy will still find their way into the forum. I suspect there will still be threads in the future that will need the calming distraction of a cat.

Yesterday, we climbed a local peak with the dogs. Still recovering from COVID and I was wiped out so I didn't end up taking many photos, but I have this one of Max at the summit. Today, he strangely chose to lie on the ottoman, even though the couch is wide open.

I am sorry for your loss. The empty house and also adapting to a new normal for yourself can be very hard to adjust to.

I’m just still stuck in depression and fear the watch is too garish for it’s intended purpose maybe I’ll give it a week see if I’m felling better and make a better informed choose. As I mentioned to you someone pulled a hit a run on my car took me all day to get a rental and my damaged car to the shop se I’m overwhelmed probably need to step back and catch my breathe but I’m thinking hairy needs more mellow watch as a remembrance that’s why I ask for input,,

Exactly this. Sometimes just doing the chores for a while can help with the re-set. Hope you feel better in a while, but no rush. Sorry, just my 2c.

Don’t want to take this off subject Dan but I’m recovering from my 3rd round of Covid and I honestly don’t think I could climb peaks at this point. I have done a couple short hikes but just a couple miles mostly flat ground. Although I’m finding each time I get it it’s a little easier to get over but hats of to you for climbing
