Getting close to three years since we started this thread and I have enjoyed every single post, thank you guys 馃憤

My boys finding the first warm day of the year a bit much, please ignore what once upon a time was a lawn, trying to grow it a bit longer in the hope that the little rocket does not rip it up so much.

My best walking buddy turned eight yesterday. Unfortunately this will most likely be his last. His poor heart is about to give out. The vet gave him about three months a month ago. Will just love him and make sure he is comfortable till the end.
Sad to hear.

My ol' boy is also walking on his last legs. In September he was diagnosed with a bad malign tumor in his mouth/throat. My vet gave up on him on the spot. Because he still had so much spirit in him I was not ready to give up on him. Went to vetinary oncologist who agreed to operate on him. Went well.

We celebrated his 13th birthday in March, but he's getting real old fast. His heart valves are leaking and his hind legs are very weak.

Can't keep up anymore

So sad when you can see the spirit is willing but the body is just unable.

My old boy often forgets his age running around after the youngster but pays for it for days afterwards.

If only we could have them with us forever.

@BartH - I know that feeling too well. Dealt with 2 cancers with my old yellow lab and toward the end it gets really heard to know when to let go. My vets advice was to watch for when he no longer enjoyed the things he always had - chasing a ball (even walking to get it) and food. Now, our Australian Shepard has lost 50% of the mobility in his rear legs and has a little paralysis in his larynx so his breathing is labored, but we are told this is common for the breed. We are worried about him but he still loves walks and belly rubs, and is always nearby so he appears to still be enjoying his "retirement". I don't look forward to the day the time comes for him and I hope your old man has more quality time left than you believe.
