Damn -30 intense it’s amazing how they do it. Just finding food gotta be tough we haven’t got hit with too much snow put the vegetation has been covered/dead for a while now. It’s a tough way to make a living.

When I was in my 20's (back in the 70's) i worked on an exploratory drilling rig North of Prudhoe bay. (Long story.)

Anyway, it was 70 to 100 below. The Arctic foxes would come up out of nowhere to the kitchen trailers looking for scraps. You could turn 360 degrees and not see a thing up there, except for our trailers and the rig. I never understood where they came from or how they lived there.

I think the bunnies are probably wondering how the f... we can live in those hot boxes.

Edit. Found some pictures

I watched a pretty intense natural geographic special about life forms that can freeze and “come back”. The article I found is pretty basic but I don’t have the time right now to hunt down anything deeper. I can’t wrap my mind around -70 let alone -100 but in that nat geo special they went into native Siberians (humans) who go outside and chop wood in that type of weather short sleeves. They should have frost bite in maybe minutes but they just adapted. I saw some monks in Tibet traveling in light robes in weather that had my ears and face numb I am sure there are other instances of humans enduring these temps regularly exposed that I know little of. I was feeling bad for the neighborhood wild rabbits I was leaving out food but one night a raccoon was enjoying the grub to the point he was eating the tin pan I left the food in my wife couldn’t get in the house and that damn thing stood it’s ground I thought I could scare it off, it stood up to me l ended up throwing water at it (felt bad but didn’t want to use lethal means) and he finally ran off.
It’s pretty amazing the amount of tracks after I’m seeing after snowfall. They say COVID has benefitted the wildlife situation with all us nasty humans being tucked away I’m just a bit in awe of these creatures and their ability to survive and I’m nowhere near the coldest areas in the planet.

First off I want to thank all for your kind comments regarding my old pal, really touching 🥰

As always he was a real star on our visit to the vets, the receptionist who has known him since he joined us was so loving and caring as was the vet. Obviously age was the first discussion but given his age he is in remarkable condition given that he has a suspected infection so he had in injection of Synulux RTU and a course of Kesium 250mg tablets.

The vet did suggest if I was having a shower that it may help if I took him in to our shower room where he could inhale the steam, I did suggest to my dearly beloved I could take him in to the shower room whilst she was having a shower but that was quickly kicked in to touch 😁

Back to reality he is improved this evening and we are hopeful that this is just a minor setback.

Usually wears a suit in my experience :0)

The tracks were a thing in England in 1885..... for you it was rabbits but in later years ours was decided to be jumping mice. Just made me think of the old (maybe tall) tail....

We were out and about a lot yesterday and then went out for dinner.... Old boy was less than happy. Woke me up walking on my head at 5am and is expecting more attention today..... I had a late start as he sat on my chest for a while when I tried to get up but then again it is Saturday ;0). It is a misnomer they see in the total dark as various parts of our anatomies found while he staggered around the bed early am. Once I let some moonlight in his nite vision improved no end. On the anatomical front I know his fur is actually brown..... so it is funny how he does not merge into a brown background.

Leather bench that I made last spring is the best place to be. Minus 20 Celsius outside. And I may get a sunburn. I need a better camera to provide nicer pics of the cardinals, woodpeckers, finches, nuthatches, chickadees and friends. This is better than TV.

Oh nice did you make that contraption around the bird feeder for squirrel protection? I watched this thing about some MIT students trying to construct squirrel proof bird feeders they were trying to get as clever as one could be and had some success but 90% of the time the squirrels would over come.

I’m a bit of a bird watcher myself and the cardinals were one of my favorites. I had the perfect tree to hang feeders on about 20 feet outside my front door but 2-3 years ago Mother Nature played a cruel trick, put me directly in the path of a Tornado and deposited that tree three houses down the street. I’m still upset but my neighbors lost roofs and decks so my agitation was minor in comparison. Now those damn woodpeckers. I had to go online cause it just don’t seem right any living creature should be able to bang its head against a tree continuously and with such force and be ok. But yup they got brains built for just that. Just don’t seem right.

Old boy loves Cat TV as well ...... but I think you guys have a better view. These days Old boy is mostly just checking the weather and tends to vote nope and stay in. He prefers the ipad for wildlife now and keeps asking when we will get Racoons (they intrigue him).

@Omegafanman that pic is great. It reminds me of my buddy Baxter who passed, well not too long ago. I have two cat doors in my house installed by the previous owner. One leads to the basement one leads to the garage. Don’t ask me like I said they were there there when I got the place.

But anyway I came home one time and heard a horrible meow/wail. Buddy Baxter had put on quite a bit of weight and all I could see was cat ass tail and legs sticking out of the cat door to the basement. I tried to push him through but that lead to greater screaming so I went to his front and manipulated his belly a bit and got him to back out. I put him on a diet and tried to get him to use that door again but that was not happening. He was terrified of it from that time on. Hairy does like them but I had to block off the one leading to the garage as she goes in there to hide to mess with me.
