·I hope this doesn’t sound morbid but one problem having a 23 year old cat I give her a little poke sometimes when she is sleeping to
make sure she is still with us. Loud noises don’t disturb her since she is deaf, I’m sure it’s annoying for her but I must admit I do it probably a couple times a week.

··Kilt Owner, Beagle Parent, Omega CollectorYeah I do first look for her chest moving up and down but sometimes her mouth is open and she is sleeping so deeply her respiration is so slow there is no visible movement. When I poke her she just says “meow?” and goes back to sleep so I guess it’s not too troubling for her.
Sadly we also check the old boy to see if his chest is moving of a morning or even during the day when he may just be enjoying a nap 🙁
