My little winged buddy incoming, not sure if it is the same one from last year but all I have to do is produce some food and he/she appears from nowhere.

So Remi has been having a rough few weeks. He's been diagnosed with IBS, plus he had a UTI infection, and on top of all that he has Cushings disease...and in the midst of more vet visits than you can shake a stick at, we noticed that one of his toes was growing in size rapidly...

X-rays confirmed it is some sort of tumor, but when they tried a needle biopsy the results were "inconclusive"...oh how I hate that word...

Since it was growing so fast and there was a concern over the type of tumor it might be, we had to amputate the toe, so he had that done yesterday...

He seems to be doing okay, and now we wait to see what the lab says now that they can the tissue sample. Up until last fall he had been such a healthy dog, but the last few months he has gone through a lot.

He is now on 2 blood pressure medications, one for IBS, finishing one antibiotic for the UTI, Metacam for pain from the surgery, and he's on his second medication to control the Cushings...I should say try to control it. We noted the first symptom of this some time ago with excess thirst. Our vet says a dog his size should be drinking about a liter of water a day, but he would drink many times that if we let him, so we have to control his water intake so that his electrolytes don't get out of balance too much. It's also causing his hair to thin, and is the cause of the high blood pressure and frequent UTI's, so hopefully getting that under control will resolve a few things....

I hate to click "like" on a story like that - there should be other choices like sad, happy, hahah, Oh Noes, etc... Hope everything turns out okay 馃憤

We had the inconclusive FNA biopsy result on our cat's stomach tumor, and after putting him through so much in January when we almost lost him the 1st time, we didn't want to do it again. So they wouldn't use anything stronger than Prednisolone amongst others to treat his stomach tumor as "presumed lymphoma" based on ultrasonic findings.

Poor Remi, he is really going through a hard time. I'm glad he has his new friend, and lots of love from his people.

Thanks - he seems to be handling it remarkably well. The vet removed the bandage this morning...looks sore but he's able to get around a bit, but we aren't walking him other than out to do business.

One of my wife's friends has said he can now give the Vulcan salute "Live long and prosper" 馃榾

I told him his new nickname is "three toed Joe" and he looked at me like I had a very bad sense of humour...

After doing everything (massage, acupuncture, roids, this and that) short of surgery for Mac and his backend, I got him a supply of CBD full spectrum cannabis oil. Less than 3% THC. Don鈥檛 expect any miracle, but we will see how it goes.

You'll know its working if Mac starts listening to the Grateful Dead and Phish. Wishing Mac the best.

There is still a lot of snow on the continental divide (see background), so Zelda and I probably won't be able to do much in the mountains until June, possibly late June. But it has been perfect weather for hiking in town.
