So Remi has been having a rough few weeks. He's been diagnosed with IBS, plus he had a UTI infection, and on top of all that he has Cushings disease...and in the midst of more vet visits than you can shake a stick at, we noticed that one of his toes was growing in size rapidly...
X-rays confirmed it is some sort of tumor, but when they tried a needle biopsy the results were "inconclusive"...oh how I hate that word...
Since it was growing so fast and there was a concern over the type of tumor it might be, we had to amputate the toe, so he had that done yesterday...
He seems to be doing okay, and now we wait to see what the lab says now that they can the tissue sample. Up until last fall he had been such a healthy dog, but the last few months he has gone through a lot.
He is now on 2 blood pressure medications, one for IBS, finishing one antibiotic for the UTI, Metacam for pain from the surgery, and he's on his second medication to control the Cushings...I should say try to control it. We noted the first symptom of this some time ago with excess thirst. Our vet says a dog his size should be drinking about a liter of water a day, but he would drink many times that if we let him, so we have to control his water intake so that his electrolytes don't get out of balance too much. It's also causing his hair to thin, and is the cause of the high blood pressure and frequent UTI's, so hopefully getting that under control will resolve a few things....
