Newbie here, trying to learn about dial variations and fonts.

I came across this Seamaster 2975-4 on the sales forum.

The Seamaster font (above) stood out to me, as it appears that this hooked 'S' is more rounded than I had previously seen. I tried looking for other examples of similar references, but only came across the more angular hooked 'S's like these:

Even the 'm' has a different font than the first photo; although, I've seen both variations before.

So my question is was it common to have font variations (e.g. rounded vs. angular hooked 'S') across watches with the same reference number? And how would one determine which variation was appropriate for a given watch--would this only be discernible from the serial number?
