Finally done!

Still not perfect, but this might be my favorite design so far.

Made a few mistakes along the way, but I feel I’m getting better at this.

The famous Hodinkee style button, is also made out of the same old leather belt.

What do you all think?!

Working on attempt number 4!
You ought to use a mallet with the punch, the steel hammer will do bad things to the punches

Call me silly, but I saw the punch start to become dented and assumed it was just part of its life.

I will soon buy a mallet.

Nice way to try your hand at something new! Good work.

Are you actually going to use these or just making them for something fun to do?

To be honest I wouldn’t use something I made for an expensive watch. I’d just feel safer using a travel pouch made by a professional, and I wouldn’t trust my own craftsmanship lol. So only asked out of curiosity. But nonetheless I think it’s cool and a nice project.

I'm all for a DIY project, seems like fun. If you don't want to pay Hodinkee prices, you can always find something similar but a lot cheaper on Etsy.

It depends what you mean by “use.”

I am going to use them to store watches in a safety deposit box. So that the watches don’t scratch and stuff.

I made sure I picked nice and soft leather.

I know a lot of people use watch pouches for travel.

I probably wouldn’t do that. But then I wouldn’t do that with a Hodinkee leather pouch either. I would prefer something with more cushion and protection to be able to throw a watch in there and then throw it in the suitcase.

Something like this:

However, I don’t travel much. And when I do, I only take one watch and prefer to NEVER take it off.

I know a lot of people like to travel with a collection, but I keep it simple. One watch when traveling.
