Homemade Watch Pouch

Hello forum!

I just wanted to share something that I’ve been working on during these tough stay at home times.

For a while I’ve been wanting a soft leather watch pouch from Hodinkee, and the other day, I was at an arts and crafts store, saw the materials and bought stuff to make a pouch myself.

Here are some attempts.

The piece that goes between the caseback and bracelet is a piece of an old belt.

I cut it like so, so that it can hold the watch sturdy and keep the bracelet snug.

What do you all think?

I think I will try another design next, but pretty happy with these.

Specially since this is my first attempt at working with leather.

I like the idea of the case back protector, and whilst practical in some ways, hopefully it will evolve. I'd prefer to have them all in one, perhaps a roll? As regards to leather work, practice makes perfect and I am sure you are learning with every stitch.
Kind of reminds me in a way of my first watch storage project.. I still have it actually, in a spare room now. It was so convenient but a little too obvious for my likes.

Good work 👍. Next time, try stitching the leather back to back, then carefully turn the pouch inside out. Voila! You have a snug watch pouch with no visible seams 😁

Wow that is pretty neat, a bigger project than mine.

I will eventually make a watch wrap that carries more than one just for fun.

I’m about to try my third design lol

Lets see how this one does.

I like the sound of that!

I’m going to try it here soon!

Will post pics when I’m done (if I don’t fall asleep at the work bench)

For an experienced leather worker it's rather average quality and workmanship.

For a high school maths teacher on his first attempt, it's rather good. 👍

As you start looking around at different leathers/tools/designs you'll find yourself going down another rabbit hole and spending money on punches, knives, guides, needles and thread.

Can't wait to see things as you progress.

Not home made, but I use these leather pouches to store my smaller (30mm-34mm) vintage pieces. Each pouch holds 3 watches and closes with multiple snaps. The inside is lined with a soft cotton so the watches don’t scratch.
These fit very nicely in a home safe or a bank safety deposit box.

Thanks for the compliment!

All I have purchased so far is leather and punch.

I just finished attempt number 3 the one with hidden inseams and I don’t like how it came out.

I like the idea of it, but idk, maybe I’m not ready for that one yet.

Although the inseams are hidden, my stitching isn’t very nice, and this method shows it even more

Eh, I’m happy I tried. It’s been fun so far.
I’ll try a different design some other time.

Time to go to bed.

Good night guys!

We have animals with pouches. No need to make them downunder 👍

Interesting repurposing of a paint roller.
I've being thinking of something similar.
I have (if I can find it) an old wooden kitchen paper towel holder. Its a stand up type with wide disc base and smaller disc at the top.
I'm thinking of using a piece of foam pipe insulation . I had picked up several short pieces years ago for insulating outside faucets.

At present when I have several watches kept handy for switching out or doing timing tests I hang these on the barrels of a couple of air rifles on a rack near my work station.

Pretty sure I saw this character down at the marina trying to hawk a Rolex to buy crack. I was suspicious when I saw the band was sized too big to fit his skinny wrist.
