Adding a rider through my current insurance provider requires the hassle and expense of getting all of my pieces appraised. I am definitely interested in this service from Hodinkee!

I just ran a quote with them and got $104 annually $0 deductible on a $7,500 Rolex. My coverage at Jewelers Mutual (for the same coverage) is $109.

Added pic for visual interest

Not necessarily - depends on insurer and limit you’re needing. You can sometimes get $30-50k in blanket jewelry, but obviously that gets eaten away at by wedding rings, etc....

All those grumbling about the premium - obviously the selling point isn't about price - it's about the convenience at what looks to be a reasonable price.

Asking for a friend: Would this be a good service to cover an eight day travel clock?

Hats off to them. That is a great idea. Too bad it’s only US based. The next item will have to be shipment insurance.
They also say they're working on the RoW version 😉

You don't need to insure this one. It will remain un-stolen.

Yes, but....

try to prove that vintage Ed White is not worth 4,800 or what ever the MSRP is of a new one. Or that your stolen Ultraman is worth 35,000 not just the price of a run of the mill 145.012.

Hint: most jewelry policies are replacement value not agreed value which is significantly different.

Yes, they insure for full value, but I hear the payout is limited to $100....

The price of insurance is certainly a valid consideration. If you're insuring dozens of watches that are wroth hundreds of thousands, it's going to add up. But I agree, they are making it really convenient, and that's going to be really appealing, especially to people just insuring a few watches.

I think this is the kicker...the local guy that insures my watches won’t consider anything other than purchase price, which is different than replacement price...I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, and the ease of signing up with dink is a big plus.

When I first saw this my thought was-oh boy, here does Dinky again- but I see this as a valuable service as it's brokered by a company that is sympathetic to the hobby.

I unsure my vintage cars with Hagerty (specific to vintage cars/boats/motorcycles) and it's based on agreed value and they broker the deal with the insurer. I made a claim years ago and they paid right up. If I had that car with Geico I would have gotten screwed on the claim not becuase Geico is bad (to the contrary in my experience), but the agreed/market value of that car was much higher than blue book.
I think this is a nice service for those not able to have their insurer cover their specific collection based on real collectible value rather than new product replacement value. As long as Dinky acts as the intermediary (broker/ ombudsman ) and represents their clients and not just punt it to the insurer if there is a claim, it can work as well as collector car insurance does.

The use of Chubb and the convenience factor are big plusses. I use JewelersMutual and glad to see Dink is comparably priced. The real question is do I want the Dink to have the details of my collection at their disposal?

Hmmm, the appeal of something like this that all of a sudden I can consider taking a few nicer watches on my travels without worry.

All I need is a world that allows me to travel.

I’m going to worry slightly less just walking around my home town... but then again, it is New York 😗

I insure through my home owners plan and it's by far the best I've found. about 25k in watches for less than 200/ year.

I pulled the trigger just about 5 min ago; was about $350/yr for $40k worth of coverage.
Perhaps there are better deals out there but the appreciation “rider”, significant convenience, zero deductible, significant convenience, legitimate underwriter and significant convenience sold me.
Also prompted by the inability of my insurance guy to insure for anything other than purchase price...even with a private appraisal, it’s a static price unless i get recurring appraisals.

Perhaps there are slightly better rates elsewhere, but compared to the $400/mos on disability, $2500/mos on health, $350/mos on auto, $250/mos on home, and $200/mos on life insurances... $30/mos is reasonable.

Late with the WENUS Report again are we?
