I thought their straps were JPM straps ?
Never held one in hand but they looked very cool.
They used to but not anymore, apparently they have a different supplier now. A couple I bought several years ago had the JPM embossing and are nice, a more recent one (two years maybe?) doesn’t. It’s a fine strap but the stitching is not as good as it used to.

The Ranchero is JPM, the Connie is the more recent one.

So maybe they would announce Hermes as a key supplier of their straps and watch rolls along the lines of what @ConElPueblo was saying? That feels a bit « small » for Hermes to be trumpeted with such fanfare, though, even though it might help increase business for their bigger leather products.

I think watch rolls / travel cases might be more likely if it’s something about leather, but my bet is on a watch along the lines of what @STANDY said (and if I want to hazard a more specific guess, that watch with a gray dial).

I bet watch. I think leather accessories would be too measly a gain to make such a big deal of it.

Edit/ add- however if I were a marketing advisor handsomely paid like Hodinkee, I would not pick either of these models to do an LE. I would pick an iconic Hermes model that’s more easily wearable than the « H » shaped watch, and relaunch it with a twist. Just like they took the Heuer Skipper but with the layout of a Carrera Dato. Or what they did with the Zenith chrono.

The gray dialed Hermes @STANDY posted is a recent model that’s typical of the current 1940s / art deco revival trend but Cartier also did something similar. It’s the flavor of the day but doesn’t identify Hermes in any way. So I would pick a model that screams Hermes, and for that it would either have to be « Arceau » (round) or « Cape Cod » (squarish) (Below).

Hodinkee posted a teaster on their instagram today (left) I believe this is clearly a standard Hermes Slim D'Hermès (right) in a blue dial, white/silver subdial configuration

These models retail for $8,500 but I found a few online for around $5,500.

What do you all think? More excited? Less excited? Couldn't care less?

Don't really care as Hermes watches aren't my thing but I do like the look of the blue dial with that dark blue strap.

Couldn't care less. I'm totally missing the point of Hermes doing watches to start with. It's like if Omega would sell handbags. Or if Montblanc would do watches, too... er... wait a sec 😗...

(Note: yes, I'm aware there have been some cool Hermes-branded watches in the past, but they were mostly other brands products with a Hermes logo slapped on them and a seriously bumped-up price. The Cape Cod and the H watch whose name I have now forgotten are products whose horological significance I'm struggling to see, frankly... but this is only my opinion, and you know the saying about opinions...)

The H watch is called «l’Heure H » « the H Hour » as in the phrase « D-day ». A pun based on the H initial of « Hermes » and the word « heure » ie «hour » in French. Works in English too obviously.

Ehhh, rather have an Hermès band. Interesting to see if they find immediate takers on these

It's here:

https://limited.hodinkee.com/hermes/?utm_source=limited&utm_medium=hermes-le

https://shop.hodinkee.com/blogs/journal/slim-d-hermes-for-hodinkee

Does @STANDY get a free one for guessing right? 😁

$7'650 for the Petite Seconde one

Hermes1-Natural.jpg
and about twice as much for the GMT:

I wonder whether this will really fly off the virtual shelves...

Think the GMT was the way to go if anything. 24 pieces and precious metal. That one sold out pretty quickly though.

I like the GMT, but not those weird lugs that make the band look too narrow.

Well, I liked it, I bought it, and I already got it. And I still like it in hand.

Is it sold out and did it sell fast?
Has there been any buzz on other forums?

Okay so I’ve seen on line vintage Hermes watches made by JLC (model Etrier), Eterna, Universal Geneve (everyone knows)- of course now those are all held by competing luxury multinationals so Hermes can no longer band with the old manufactures to do an “Hermes” branded watch.
Unless they find one that’s remained independent and has a name for quality- there’s a couple left IIRC ? Problem is I can’t remember which?

The GMT was gone very quickly - under 20 minutes - the normal one was a slow mover, I was checking all day, and it was not sold out until late afternoon EST. I had it in my basket early on - I’m a big fan of Hermes too, but in the end I decided I didn’t like it enough to justify it. If I’m going to spend 8k on a watch, I have many more on the list before this.
