Hobby swap?

I don’t know if this was discussed in years past and I can’t fathom how to search the topic, but I know many of us have multiple hobbies and collections and sometimes we would like to cross pollinate when we want to purge some things and acquire others. I don’t belong to any forums for fountain pens, cameras, smoking pipes (I do for stereo but has been a while) or other hobbies in which I know others here also have interest- plus I like you people and have some misguided sense of trust within this community (despite never having actually “met” any of you).
Last year a fellow member posted a very valuable cigar collection for trade for watches and it garnered some attention. He was successful in trading those cigars (and the humidor) for watches and both parties came out very happy.
Has there been discussion about an open trades section within the marketplace sub-forums where we could post collectibles of value (not flea market stuff- we all know the difference), for trade for watches or other collectibles?
Would it be appropriate to post a WTT of say- fountain pens for watches (and cash either direction if both parties agree the market value is more or less the trade items ) in the current FS section or is that forbidden?
Obviously we don’t want this place to look like a Moroccan bazaar, but having to sell something on eBay or other places to get money to then buy watches from someone who just sold watches to buy the thing you just sold on eBay....

Thoughts?

Some of the other forums I frequent have sales subforums where other types of goods can be sold. But I would think having a WTT post be only for certain/ specific items from other hobbies would be very limiting, and your items could sit for a long time. It's usually more efficient to sell what you want to sell by listing it in the best place, and buying what you want to buy from wherever the best place for that might be.

I'd have no objections to a non-watch sales/ trade subforum, but I suspect I would mainly use it for buying/ selling and not for trading.

I think it could be interesting, seems like it could be a more pleasant experience than eBay where half the time the winning bidders don't pay and the other half, some scammer is buying your item and sending you a fake PayPal notice. Plus, trading might be more fun.

I feel like this idea might be ripe for a secret Santa exchange type thing, where you could set a value limit and everyone who wants to participate is given someone to send a hobby item to. I use fountain pens (not really a collector in the same way I collect watches) and my favorite pen to use is only about $20.

I'm trying to build up the courage to sell off my cars now as under the influence of a more expensive hobby now 🤦 this maybe a watershed moment for me which I may/may not regret.

I don't think I'd want to sell them here though, and no offense intended to anyone but agree with @BlackTalon that there are other appropriate platforms/hobbyists.

@Capt Cave Man - this scenario popped into my head- what is someone wants to trade a gilt dialed Sub- for a ‘62 Vette...that’s a little out of the league I was thinking, but not out of the realm is possibility.

My thought was just a “safe” place in which we could announce things we want to move along for things we want. It would have to be watch related on one side (we already have WTT in the FS section for watch-watch) like a Sub for Vette, or collection of Parker Duofolda for a Speedy, or Leica M3 kit for a Connie.
Again- just thinking out loud.

I think the watch on one side idea is promising. There are so many guys here who collect the same things, it would open up a whole new area of trade and potential fun.

Funny that Corvette popped into my head despite being a German car guy....don’t have a guilt Sub nor a ‘62 Vette...I would take the Vette over the sub any day though.

Exactly! Fun was what I was thinking- obviously it comes with the trust and pitfalls of any trade deals that happen already.
We have all spent years collecting various things, watches are just one of them.

Quite an interesting idea, which would leverage the many solid relationships/reputations that already exist on the forum. But it obviously opens a huge can of worms in terms of vetting the authenticity of non-watch items, so I can understand why the admins/mods want to avoid it.

Nothing is stopping you from offering trades by PM.

You need a proper case mate. Yes I know you probably have several already...

This case travelled the world with me...

I put the wheels on it. Very sturdy case - back in late 1997 I was in Australia and my father in law took me to a local range and dropped me off there to train for a bit. I shot a few events there, and on Jan. 1 of 1998 I was planning to shoot an annual tournament in Adelaide - first event on the international calendar for the year (ended up getting a stomach flu from my wife's family, so didn't shoot it). I walked down to put up a target to shoot at, and turned around just in time to see my father in law run over my case full of equipment in his new Holden Statesman...🤦

Fortunately it all survived okay, and other than having to trim some melted plastic off the case it came out fine - the case had been trapped under the car for a bit against the exhaust.

I did eventually buy a spiffy new SKB case....but I retired before I ever used it...

This thing is nearly 4 feet long, and the inside is cut out to accommodate two complete recurve bows - you can see the foam cuts in the top layer:

When going to events we would always trade equipment, so I would put the back-up bow for someone else in my case, and they would put my back-up in theirs. That way if someone's case was lost, we had a back-up. I should probably sell this case - it wasn't a cheap one!
