Hi I’m new to the forum and wanted to say hello. I’m UK based and been looking for a vintage Seamaster for some time and finally found a 1960 Seamaster De Ville that I’ve added a dark brown merino Hirsch strap to. Really pleased with the watch. Can anyone confirm if the dial is sunburst or linen as I’m not entirely sure. Many thanks !

Thanks I’ve tried to research but some of the images of both types of dial were a bit confusing.

Welcome! Sunburst is more like this:
Ah right yes I see it clearly with the dark dial. It’s just I’ve seen some dials that were supposedly linen but the cross hatching is vertical and horizontal rather than mine where the cross hatching is diagonal. Are there two types of linen dial?

Thanks the watch is in amazing condition with original crown and Omega etched crystal which I believe is hesalite or similar?

There are many type of dial pattern.
I generally consider any dial with rays or lines originating at the centre and radiating outward to the periphery of the dial to be "sunburst".

Linen dial is a term that could be applied to yours. The vertical/horizontal style would likely be called "basket weave".

Don't get me started on the divide between followers of "waffle" versus "clous de Paris" dials.

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

Thanks for this very informative. I just love the classic understated look of the watch and it’s my daily wearer now.

It is definitely linen - the sunburst pattern (or soleil in french) is a radiant pattern.

Thank you. There seems to be many varieties of a linen dial and other styles. My watch is dated 1960 are the style of dials comparable to the date they were manufactured?

Hi, very nice! For reference I attach my linen dial Omega watch from 1965:

Hi that’s a lovely dial too. I take it the dial sometimes doesn’t have Seamaster or De Ville on it?
