Hi, I am new to this dangerous place

From Cape Town, South Africa.

Recently bought my first Omega. (second hand Seamaster)

I also own a Tag and a Breitling.

But there is something about the Omega that is different. Don't know what. Just feels like my most special watch ever for a reason that I can not describe. What I do know is that it is dangerous. Browsing too much and looking with funny feelings at the Speedy's.

Anyway, hope to learn a lot and also to hopefully contribute.

(ps, What the pics show me is that my other watches needs a good clean/service)

Hi Kobus, nice to see another SA boy here. Welcome to the madness!

Dangerous perhaps, but a great forum nonetheless. I stumbled across it while researching the new Silver Snoopy Award. To my shame I had seen an article about it and thought it might be fun to buy one and flip it for a profit, much like an oversubscribed IPO.

I duly got on a waiting list, bumped to the top and paid the full deposit, so guaranteed to get one. For the next three months or so I did some research into Speedmasters, tried some on, looked at Seamasters as well, and began to appreciate the passion people have for fine watches.

Having previously had no inkling or desire for a new watch I suddenly realised I wanted a classic Speedmaster Moonwatch. Not waterproof enough? No matter, another £90 got me a G-shock. No date? No matter, my newspaper can tell me that. Scratchable hesalite? No problem, a tube of Polywatch from Amazon and my wife's make-up cotton balls solve that.

So thanks to advice from here I got a classic Moonwatch to replace my trusty automatic Tag 2000 that hadn't left my wrist for 23 years. The Speedy even needs winding? Cool, we bond over toast every morning.

After a month on the wrist I still get pleasure looking at it, from the design of the dial, its readability, everything about it. Six months ago I would never dreamed of spending this much on a watch but that's forgotten now.

As for the Silver Snoopy - Sapphire crystal? No need for Polywatch. White dial? Complements the black Speedy perfectly. Flip it? Not now I appreciate the history and workmanship.
