Hi all, relatively new here, have a question about sending a vintage piece to Bienne...

I have an original PloProf that was my grandfather in law's. It's now mine. I had the movement serviced by a local watch maker a few years ago but would love to have more information on it. Will sending it to Omega provide me with any history of the piece? What I don't want is for them to change the dial, hands, etc. Any thoughts on what information I may get from them?

Here's a couple of photos...

Sending the watch to Bienne for service will almost certainly result in a new dial, hands, and bezel insert. Plus some brushing & polishing of the case.

As @Willem023 points out, getting an Extract of the Archives may be your best bet for getting info. on the manufacture date and initial delivery location of your watch. The cost is about US$120 as I recall. Outside the United States you can order and pay for the Extract online; within the U.S. you'll have to do this through an Omega Botique.

For a fee, Omega can send you a copy of their archives for the piece you have. You don't even have to send them the watch. But as Jones said, do not send it to Omega as they do not specialize in preserving vintage pieces. Depending on where you are I'm sure the members here can point you to a reputable service. This is the info on the extract from another watch on the forum (currently being sold by @cottonlume)

Thank you all! I live in Northern California, outside San Francisco. While I haven't looked yet, I am guessing there is an Omega Boutique somehere near. I will do that. Thank you!
