Hodinkee prices are like Phillips or Analog Shift prices. Can't be used as a guideline for actual sales...

yes but the price guide is saying $4500 and you can see other sellers selling them for $4500. Those are pretty good clues indicating estimate value. Maybe he could sell it for more sure! Or maybe a little less. Who the hell really knows?

here is my carrera and I love it.

Thanks for all the input!

Reason I am asking about value is that whilst I know how much I paid, I'm curious what it would be worth on the open market.

Is it possible to have the dial restored? Or is that a terrible idea?

Here's a picture of the movement.

OP: Please take comments about value with a grain of salt and do your own research if valuation really matters to you. Different people have different motivations for valuations they give on the forum. Some may truly be trying to help you, but some have more knowledge than others, and you may not be able to distinguish between them. Others may be trying to give a lowball estimate in the hope of buying it. And still others are constantly trying to pump up values because they are frequent sellers. Vague references to auction or dealer sales or price guides are not typically helpful IMO. As research, identify a number of comp sales from auctions and forum listings, eliminate outliers, and make adjustments by condition. Follow ongoing sales and track prices. It will take some time and effort, but you will learn a lot and probably converge on a reasonable value.

I would keep it the way it is man. It looks good! I am gonna get my case refinished in the future. But that’s frowned upon by some folks here… 😎

Are you a betting man? Let's start with a bet for one penny. Have you ever found before and after photos of a good restoration of one of these dials? No? Why not?

Hands can be done, but yours are in better shape than mine and I've decided to leave them alone.

Aaaaaand get that watch serviced pronto! Mine has just the best action of the pushers of any of my chronos, light and positive. If the pusher feel is mushy it's an internal problem not a problem with the pusher itself (IANAWM).

Maybe the pandemic buying spree lifted prices some, but I sold mine last summer and got about $3500.

And I love it! I don’t think I could sell mine for more then I paid. In the private market I don’t think you will see much more than that unless perfect example. I also think that Heuer price guide is a bit off and prices are a bit lower. I would estimate at around 3500 depending on how big the dial issues are in person and could be lower.

Here is mine.

And I love it!

This is why I sell watches I don't wear - so someone else can properly love them 😁

@timmyk86 did you return this ? It’s just been listed on eBay. Can I ask the reason if you did ?

Edit… OK it’s a bit strange. It was listed on the 13th and “sold” on the 19th, then relisted again on the 21st. But you started the thread on the 3rd. Are you the eBay seller ?

The newer eBay photos show the dial damage more clearly, and I think we all know how a dial like this affects value. It's listed again BTW. By one of our favorite sellers. 🙄

Yeah so this is a bit weird.

I bought it first on the 3rd, had it for a day or two then decided to return it for two reasons- one because the dial was worse than expected and second because the reset pusher was really mushy and didn’t feel right. I had asked the seller to take a look and maybe get it back to the watchmaker (as it was sold with a warranty) but he just said he thought that was normal and if I didn’t like it better to return it. That put me right off to be honest so I sent it back to him.

It reappeared on his website and eBay the next day for £500 more than I paid, then I guess was sold again. Now it’s back again - I wonder if someone else bought and returned it like I did.

how do you mean favourite sellers? Does ‘Fine Watch Club’ have a bad rep around here?
Those are serious issues. I would pass on this watch unless very cheap and listing is not very cheap.
Meaning the dial damage? It looked a bit like water to me. The mushy button and general response from the seller of ‘just send it back’ put me off more if I’m honest!

Oh yes, previously wasn't easy to see the dial issues but man - that's bad. No wonder it's been returned twice; the seller probably thought he could pass it off easily but now with those much clearer photos seems like he figured out he couldn't.

Yes, dial damage. Original photos were hiding damage. That watch is worth significantly less than what you paid. You were smart to return.

Thanks. I’m glad I did.

curious to know about the reputation of the seller if anyone has any input on that?
