Did anyone notice the perfect adjusted timing between these two!!??? Great feel for perfection!
OMG, good catch!! They are really perfectly matched, both chrono second hands and the small second hands... for a non-hackable watch this is going to be quite difficult. Cudos to the PO!

I think is by far the best post on the whole internet presenting the difference between the 2 versions. I went through the process too and own both.

From my eyes, some of the early version of 3573.50 (namely the incorrect wording ones such as the one in this post) looks different from the later and current production 311....006 sapphire sandwiches, in that:
1. The "milky ring" effect on older ones are less obvious. and
2. The later version seems to have a grey-ish tint on the crystal, and even the dial color seems a tad lighter, making the entire dial appear in a lighter shade of grey.

Not sure if these observations are shared by others...

Did you try Polywatch? It easily removes scratches. Can‘t do this with Sapphire though. 😀

Can't use it on plexi with protective coating.

Never scratched sapphire in my life

As durable and practical as the sapphire version of the Speedy Pro is, I just can’t get past that milky white ring and I would never be able to unsee it. Here is a side by side photo of my 2017 SMPc (sapphire) on the top and my 145.022-76 Speedy Pro (hesalite) on the bottom. If the sapphire version of the Speedy was more like the SMPc (ie, no domed crystal and no milky white ring), then it would be more attractive to me. When the sunlight hits the hesalite Speedy at the right angle, the watch is stunning in a way that the sapphire version just can’t duplicate. So I’ll stick with the traditional and more historically accurate hesalite version, the need for Polywatch notwithstanding.

I find maidens water removes scraches easily from hesalite ...........just a light rub.

It’s hackable.
As the owner of 3 Speedy pros, I know it's not hackable. Unless you meant "back hacking"... Sometimes it works.

I “back hacked” both watches so they would be in sync for the photos. There’s just something satisfying about having two synchronized watches next to each other 😉

I like the "milky ring" in the sense that I can tell which edition a Speedy is.
I wonder if this is intentional by Omega, or a design limitation...

Either way, I think both editions have their place. The Hesalite tries to be as historically accurate, and the Sapphire is a slightly-modern and more premium version.

Perfect that this showed up as just yesterday I was in a boutique debating between the two. Thank you for the awesome post!

Great comparison and on that basis my vote is for Hesalite, but I wonder how a Mitsukoshi vs Tokyo 2020 would compare as the white dials would lessen the Sapphire halo effect I guess.
I have both a hesalite sandwich 3572.50 and a sapphire Silver Snoopy and can confirm that the milky ring on the sapphire is indeed much less prominent on a white dial. I don't notice it at all when wearing the Snoopy but would consider it distracting on the classic Moonwatch.

I think owning both sapphire and hesalite really changed my perspective. I first got the sapphire sandwich as an engagement gift, which got me into the watch world. After reading many posts and learnt the general preferences towards hesalite, I just couldn’t help thinking the sapphire was not “correct”, and the milky ring bothered me more and more.

Eventually I got myself a hesalite version, I admit most of the times I think it looks better than the sapphire. But I started to appreciate more and more about the sapphire’s unique appearance, its clean, sharp and modern aesthetics. And the milky ring doesn’t bother me as much anymore, almost like a black leather strap with white stitching... Now I just feel they each have a character, just different. Sapphire could also look very attractive, see these pictures:

Maybe Omega should think about changing / improving the shape of the saphire! Because meanwhile it is possible to do it almost as good from aesthetic viewpoints as hesalith! I definitely prefer for aesthetics the hesalith, but of course for practical reasons saphire.

Tudor did that really well, just for a comparison to our speedies...

That’s true... people (like watchfinder.com) were saying the sapphire speedy has the ring because it’s technically not practical to shape sapphire the same way as Hesalite. But Tudor did it. I think Oris diver 65 has also has a domed sapphire that looks just like the Tudor. Maybe Omega did it on purpose for the unique look? I don’t know.

I am currently deciding between a Speedy Pro as one of the ones to buy. I was heavily leaning towards the Sapphire because of the beautiful display caseback, but having gone to see them in person, I am stuck getting past the milky ring. I would have a hard time wearing the sapphire knowing how it looks compared to a hesalite. Its a shame too as I was pretty set on the sapphire sandwich before going in there, and seeing them in person, it put doubt in my head. I still havent decided whether I can forgoe the display caseback for the clear dial (which I am leaning towards as that gets more viewing time than the back) or deal with the milky ring to get the sapphire.

I'd say if you want to wait and look for a pre-owned 3572.50 or 3592.50, it will be perfect for you with the hesalite front and sapphire back.

Otherwise, if you only plan to buy one speedy pro, go with the Hesalite.

Display case backs are great for all of 10 minutes. Yes, I’ve a few in my collection but rarely look at the movement. It’s the front that’s important to me so I went with the hesalite.

The reason I liked the sapphire (on my FOIS) is the crystal height is lower than hesalite, making it look a bit more trim.

Also it doesn't show in pics, but while the edges are milky, the center portion seems blacker than hesalite, for a lack of better word. The hesalite dome catches light more especially when viewed more from the side, giving it a "warmer" or what I consider a duller look. Head-on the hesalite definitely looks better though.

I am sorry - I do not agree. Here I like the display back very much - the 1861 is a beautiful movement compared to other ones. Every time I use this watch I have a llok at the movement...

Why not putting on a display back as an add on yourself?
