How about a fully customisable Speedmaster?

When you check out you get to choose the movement, I.e. 321, 861, 1861 or 3861, the bezel, ceramic not ceramic, sapphire or hesalite crystal, display or not display caseback and writing or no writing.

Finally, after you order, you pick it up 1 week later.

What do you guys think?

Wishful thinking, I'm afraid. Swatch isn't going to torpedo the exclusivity of the new Ed White 321 by making that movement available to the general masses as an option on the Speedmaster Professional. They also aren't going to revive the 861 or the 1861 movements. So far as I know, the aluminum bezel/hesalite crystal/solid caseback and the ceramic bezel/sapphire crystal/display caseback combos are still available with the 3861 movement depending upon which model you choose. That's likely to be as flexible as it's going to get.

Can you really get a ceramic bezel with the 3861??

I stand corrected. I thought that the bezel on the sapphire version of the Pro is ceramic, but I just checked and it's aluminum. 🙁

But you get the applied logo instead of painted… worth $1000 isn’t it? 😁😁😁

Interesting that you can't get a ceramic bezel on the current "entry" level Speedmaster, but my SMPc came with one back in 2018 when the watch retailed for $4,400 USD and was available at a substantial discount. Go figure.

Correct - And with no disrespect to the 321 caliber, but top of my (fantastical) wish list would be a 321/3861 derived movement (free sprung, co-axial) with a vertical clutch, column wheel chronograph movement with a peripheral rotor (on ruby rollers) - a micro-rotor would be second best option - that allows us to ogle at the movement endlessly in it's full glory. Omega are you listening? Go develop!

I feel being able to choose your parts cheapens the Speedmaster brand. That would be a sharp departure from the move toward originality (how Omega originally made it).

I would also kill the second hand market because every Speedy would be unique.

Fun thought experiment though.

How about a world timer that you can put one custom city/town on the dial? Like Ed Sheeran putting Framlingham on his Patek?

Its more of a weird design choice by Omega.

For example, the 20k+ Sedna and Canopus moonwatches come with aluminum bezels.

Would be a great concept for the new next generation Ploprofs. Choose a dial and the color of the strap and the big button and crown. I would choose the 1970 prototype configuration with a red button and a red crown. Also on the red Isofrane strap. Dark blue dial. Black bezel.
Great special edition box with it.
Online customization website.
Waiting time 3 months after ordering. Pickup in your nearest Omega Boutique of your choice.
Close to 20k EUR for a custom Ploprof.
Happy man.

Vacheron Constantin tried to do a customizable Quai de L'ile with dials and metals around 8-10 years ago. They quickly discontinued the customizable portion because it was probably too much trouble for the amount of sells they were getting. I imagine this would be the same for Omega and the Speedmaster.

I feel like this more sense, especially since the Plops are low volume in terms of sales and dont really have as much of heritage behind them guiding the designs.

I'd go for a custom plop

The sedna and the canopus are aluminium indeed. The moonshines bezels came a year later in ceramic. The bracelet is a little different too. Bit weird yes.

So other than the Ed White, which ceramic bezel is available for the Speedmaster 3861? Is there one that is direct fit and looks right?

The Silver Snoopy has a ceramic bezel 😉

Probably parts limited though, I would guess? I bet the blue bezel would look fun on a 3861.

Funny, this is also what so many said when the MoonSwatch was introduced 😁 ::stirthepot:: Joke aside, I get what you are saying but Omega has long since departed how it was originally made. If they stuck with how they were originally made, then Speedys like the TinTin, Mitsukoshi, UltraMan, Olympic, Commemorative, and the many more wouldn’t exist. Not to mentions options like sapphire, ceramic, movement upgrades, and more. 😁 😉
