Great watch an lovely pictures - those diamond markers are spectacular. As this is the Helvetia thread I thought I'd add the link for the full photo library my Mitka of the 831 service. An incredible movement, and he managed to get it down to chronometer spec. I'm very lucky! https://workshop.mitka.co.uk/cgi-bin/library?action=show_photos&wat_id=616
Just though I'd add to the Helvetia threads here that I have finished an update to the page on my site on the history of the Société d’Horlogerie La Générale and Helvetia and you can find it here: https://www.helvetiahistory.co.uk/history One of the most surprising things I found is that the Montres Helvetia S.A. that is around at the moment is not a modern relaunch but isn't the Helvetia that grew from La Generale either. It is actually Montres Silvana S.A. that took over the Helvetia name in 1973 when they were both part of SGT and as such has been around since 1923. Nice to see one of the old companies still exists even with a name change! Thanks. Carl.
I would put this at 500 Euros minimum even if those marks are on the dial which is hard to tell from the pics. Where did this sell and have they got any more?
It was from local dealer who obviously didn't know its real value. Unfortunately nothing similar is for sale from him
My latest buy. Cal 80C from1946. With several pics of ads for the dial and one of the case but no exact match unfortunately.
Hello all, I've just updated my site with pages on the different Helvetia military watches in addition to the German DH page I already had up. Click on the 'Watches' menu to see the list. https://www.helvetiahistory.co.uk/ Here are individual page links for the new pages: Helvetia Admiralty Pattern Watches https://www.helvetiahistory.co.uk/royal-navy-admiralty-pattern-watches British Army GS/TP Pocket Watches https://www.helvetiahistory.co.uk/british-gstp-pocket-watches Helvetia 'US Army ORD No OH' Watches https://www.helvetiahistory.co.uk/helvetia-us-army-oh-watches Helvetia German Military Pocket Watches https://www.helvetiahistory.co.uk/german-miltary-pocket-watches Thanks. Carl
Very good! Thank you Carl. The brand has intrigued me. If I could sneak up on a "real deal" on a vintage Helvitia with its dial having the older style logo and in its original stainless steel or solid gold case then it could become a resident of the Home For Wayward Watches.
I think I can become a member of this group. This is a Helvetia 13 ligne from 1915 awarded on 1918. Glit hands and gilt dial (poor photography). Likely it will be a safe queen to avoid much exposure. Mineral glass has minor scratches from 100 years of use, but the dial is a piano lacquer or enamel dial that doesn't have a single scratch or crack.
Hello again Seiji, Lovely watch as I said over on MWR. I think the number is a serial number probably related to the supply of movements to other manufacturers by the General Watch Co. They are not usually on General Watch Co marked movements at this time. Thanks. Carl.
Helvetia rarely shows up on shop goodwill. I wish I could find more at Helbros prices. Sometimes one gets lucky and can find a Helvetia in a job lot. Usually if it is obvious, it is probably the sweetener.
