Hi everyone, I'm being offered this Rolex GMT Master for sale. This is not my expertise, I'm a vintage Seiko collector. I'd love the opinions of anyone who knows this model well! I won't buy it until another friend who knows these well holds it in person, so you all are not my last line of defense, but I'd love your opinions based on what you can see in the photos. Thanks!

Looks like a nice honest GMT 1675 MK5, which dates it around ‘77/78. The dial and hands look good to me and the case looks worn but not terrible. The bracelet looks like a 78360 with 580 end links, which is period correct. The insert is ok, nothing to write home about, a Pepsi would make third watch stand out.

With a little poly watch on the crystal this watch can be quite the looker. Depending on price, it definitely looks good. I’d check the serial between the lugs to make sure it corresponds to the dial.

what’s the asking price?

I agree that it looks nice at first glance. The case has probably seen some polishing but the crown guards look ok and the lugs are thick. Everything is plausibly original if the serial number is in the right 5M range as mentioned above.

Hi, thanks for the feedback! This is really useful. I haven't negotiated the price, but I think I have a good good negotiating position. What would you say market price is?
How do I match the SN between the lugs to the dial?

You have to remove the bracelet, it’s stamped between the lugs.

I’d say, anything around $11K, you’d be fine.

If all checks out, I dont think you can find a 1675 like that for $11k.

that would be a steal at that price, providing it all checks out

You have to know where to look ;-)

Man, I’m in the market for a ‘77 just about this honest (preferably with Pepsi and jubilee), and will be pleased as punch to give anyone $11k for it!

Jubilee + Pepsi > $11K 😉

Looks like a cool 1675, with a very nice patina.

I think 14K is a more realistic price if everything matches, more with a redback Pepsi insert.

i also saw this watch and was given the chance to make an offer in our watch group.

overall it looks correct for a later mk5 dial and SN will verify that. that fits the period given the later black bezel.

while it's always nice to find "a deal" i think the seller has shopped it around enough among collectors that you should put in a best effort offer. Personally, I did not mind offering a premium given the darker patina, which does not often show up.

I would be interested in this watch. Could OP give me the details of the seller if he's not interested?

The fact the OP hasn't responded should tell you the outcome.....stop salivating
