This 166.0402 is being offered locally for $1000 CAD. I'm mostly concerned with the dial and case (if its polished) but I'd appreciate anything else that you can chime in on

I'm not sure what you would be concerned about dial and case-wise, as that looks fine. it's the price that would have me concerned.

Yah for sure, I wouldn't pay anywhere close to his asking price. The lugs on the back looks too shiny to me. In terms of the dial, it looks pristine...almost too pristine?

Very crisp and clean, still fresh after all these years. Just like the others, not sure on price. I would be inclined to think it was stored for a while because though the dial is clean, it has age on the lume and markers. Just my thoughts. At the right price, I would snatch it and wear it all the time. Not sure what the right price would be? $600 would make me happy, but realistically maybe $800 if they're willing to bargain?

Very nice condition but it’s not a particularly desirable case style or movement.

$1000 in Canadian is $750 in US, it's not horrible for that price. As for "desirable", that only matters to the person with the money.

When the OP asked for "anything else (worth) chiming in". Stating the fact these aren't on the whole desirable or sought after by most collectors is worth mentioning.

I agree. I just want him to be confortable buying it if he wants it.

Oh absolutely, regardless of what anyone else thinks, if an individual likes something that should be all that matters.

(Resale)Value is important in any expensive hobby though, especially for a newb who’s still finding their feet and niche, so knowing that it’s might not be easy to resell at the current asking price is important.

I agree. Don't be swayed by its excellent condition. If you have an interest in movements (and why this one has a bit of a shadow over it), look at Desmond Guilfoyle's excellent blog on Omega Constellations http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com/. His specific article on the 1000 series movements is this: http://users.tpg.com.au/mondodec//Movement4.pdf.

Thank you guys for everything. I read all of your comments and considered all feedback. I spend a huge part of yesterday reading about the 1000 series movements. I even had Siri read me the 12 pages of Desmond's blog post lol. I took all that ammunition with me when I went to see the seller. I made him (what I think) is a fair offer considering everything. He was reluctant at first but ended up taking the money. This is my first Omega. I actually love the case and lug design. The movement is not the prettiest, but that's fine, at least it's a in-house movement. I will just have to pay attention to the serving intervals, and make sure the watchmaker understand Omega's service bulletin for this Cal.

Is the stamping on the inside of the case back correct?

it looks like its been done by an infant - it looks shockingly bad to me

any cause for concern?

Wonder how it would look on a stainless mesh? Looks great and would have a ton of fun putting different straps! Enjoy!

On eBay, search for "JB" and "Champion" with 18mm. There are a lot of NOS straps that are not padded, of you wanted something older. Depending on your wrist size, you might need "long", so check the measurements against the strap you're currently using.

Thanks for that. That’s exactly what I was looking for. I just bought one, a JB NOS from eBay

I bet it would look nice. The ones I’ve seen on Amazon/eBay look pretty cheap. It would be nice to get an original Omega mesh but they’re as expensive as the watch lol
