    Hi,

My father wants to sell a watch he received as a gift at least 15 years ago. It's a Longines L1.645.8 34044271 and he no longer has the box since he used it occasionally and never considered selling it until now.

Is anyone able to assist with a ballpark valuation?

Try to have a deeper look in internet. From what I saw there are some in the range 3/5k EUR

I do not think that there is much demand for this era of Longines. The watch below (L1.611.8) is listed for $2000 USD (OBO) on eBay and no one has bough it yet. I realize that this watch is not exactly the same as your father's, but I imagine that the value is similar. I would say somewhere between $1000-$2000 USD.

Update on the watch above: "The listing was ended by the seller on Fri, 15 Sep at 7:24 PM because the item is no longer available." Unfortunately, we do not know what it sold for, but maybe somewhere not far below $2000 USD.

That watch is the smaller 36mm version, while the OP watch is 40mm. You can easily distinguish the two by the presence or absence of the 12 o'clock marker. The new no-date steel version comes in 38mm and 40mm. If they release a no-date 36mm black dial with rose gold makers, I will be all over it.

Thanks for the information. I suppose that the 40 mm reference might be more desirable.

It has a bit more gold if nothing else.
