Help with rough price please!

My parents have been clearing out their house and have come across this Omega watch. My dad worked in Saudi Arabia for a few months in 1979-80 and he was given this watch as a leaving present. Despite sitting in a box for 40 years it works fine. I really like it and I'd like to wear it but I just want to find out its rough price because if it's worth a significant amount I might well sell it and buy a less expensive watch. In terms of wear and tear it's pristine as it has never been worn.

Could anyone give me a rough price?

Nice watch in great condition.
A "rough price" will depend on your locality, this watch would be relatively more expensive in Australia than in the United States for example.

In GBP I’d say that ref with bracelet has an average value around £500-600 for a decent example. Then add maybe a maximum of 50% premium for condition and box and papers (assuming it has those). So between £750-900

Wear it and enjoy it, it’s in great condition. However you must get it serviced first so as not to damage the movement. If you give us your location someone can recommend a watchmaker.

Pounds 750 in today's market is very hard to achieve. Papers? Back engraving?

And, by the time you’ve found a buyer who’ll offer £500-750, or put it in an auction and received much less (and paid auction fees, eBay charges or commission) there won’t be anything as nice as what you’ve got (regardless of the family history heritage) in the ‘less expensive’ market.

Thank you everyone for your super quick and really helpful responses. I'm not going to sell it and am instead going to wear it. Hopefully I'll get lots of years of enjoyment from it!

Great decision. But do get it serviced first! The oils are dry & gummy, and you will wear the parts of the movement. Take it to a local watchmaker and make sure you tell him that you don’t want it polished.

if you tell us your location, someone can usually recommend a watchmaker.
