Hi everyone,
My trusted watchmaker has been having issues when servicing my 1002 caliber movement on my 166.077.

He notes that something is binding and breaking the little setting wheel on the smaller teeth that’s on the underside of the star end of part 1000-1568 not visible here:

We have tried a second one and had Unfortunately the same issue with it damaging those tiny teeth when setting the time again.

Was hoping someone here might have a tip to help.

thanks!

It's most likely the cannon pinion. If he didn't disassemble it before cleaning, and properly lubricate it, it can be very tight. The teeth on some of the wheels on the dial side are very fine and thin, and can easily get sheared off by the pressure required to turn the cannon pinion during setting if it's not been properly lubricated.

Common issue of the watchmaker isn't familiar with this movement. Same applies to the subsequent 10101020 series movements.

Cheers, Al

Thanks so much.

I’ll relay the message and order a few more spares to try again. Appreciate the knowledge and feedback.
