https://www.chrono24.com/omega/-vin...nic-18kt-yellow-gold-full-set--id10713303.htm To the collective wisdom of Omega Forums. Thank you for adding me to the forum. I've been nursing an itch for a hummer F300 and I think something like this constellation is right up my itch. However whilst I'm more familiar with the steel and gold plated 198.002, this particular solid gold model posted on Chrono24 is rather peculiar. Does anyone know if it's the real deal? Any info on this design appreciated Thank you in advance
Way overpriced IMO, I'd keep looking if I were you. There are deals to be had with solid gold F300, patience is key.
Thanks for that. Yes. This is rather expensive. But was actually more piqued with the model version. It’s not a design that I see much of. Curiously, What’s a reasonable sum for a solid gold piece?
Here's an example of one I picked up a year or two ago https://omegaforums.net/threads/what-did-my-grandmothers-£500-buy-me-f300-198-5001.66304/ I think if you have a budget of around £1,000 you should be able to get something nice in 9ct and not too much more for an 18ct.
That story about your nan is beautiful! Fortunately when grandma passed on, I wasn’t in deep with watches..... otherwise all hell would have broken loose It was good to have also found your thread. I started looking at old catalogues for this model. And couldn’t seem to find anything From what I could tell it beats a similarity to a Seamaster of that generation
With all things F300, the go to resource is the website below. He (Paul Wirdnam) has a picture of a gold 198.002 on there: http://electric-watches.co.uk/makers/omega/omega-f300-tuning-fork/omega-f300-case-numbers-and-dates/ The one you show is more special still since it has a solid gold dial, but the price is. still about 100-200% over its real value IMO
Thanks for the link to electric watches... I’ve been lurking on that site for awhile now... unfortunately whilst electric watches shows an exemplary 198.002, there is nothing on the version that i posted... to be honest, i’m wondering if it is even real... or is it something very very special. The other thing odd / unique about that watch is the hands, whilst it has the usual shape of F300hz hands, its completely black... so unusual Curiously, how do you know its a solid gold dial? UPDATE: I found the answer to that... its in the OM
Just found this on the bay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-OM...00HZ-SOLID-GOLD18K-MENS-38x43mm-/264305550668Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Paul, Did you already snooped through the old-omegas archive? This catalogue http://www.old-omegas.com/mex72.html shows at least your 198.002 gold one. Not that high resolution there so unidentifiable if it has the or massive mark (OM) on dial or not.
yes have searched through it. it appears it has the same case shape, but the dial is completely different. In fact there is nothing that looks quite like it aside from some Seamasters... i guess its fortunate that there are 2, one on chrono24 and another on eBay. The other thing i found interesting about it is the full black hands. usually F300hz have black or white hands with some lume down the middle. so the hands were uncommon too.
It is running perfectly. The crystal was scuffed really bad so it was being sold for $450aud and I know it’s acrylic and could be buffed out. My watch guy cleaned it up for $10
Yeah I have some. It gets out some nasties. This time though I had my watch guy do it. Took him 20 mins but it came up mint.
Dear Respondents of this thread. Thank you all much for the conversation and help. I’ve pulled the trigger! It’s here and verified! This old boy is from May 1972 and delivered new to Italy. She’s running a bit fast but will deal with a service in due course. Photographed with a new Veblenist goat skin (I think) leather band to complete what I believe to be an original look
