Hi! I’m a university student conducting a short survey (approx. 5 minutes) about preferences in luxury watches and sustainability. Your answers will remain anonymous and are used for academic purposes only.
No special knowledge required - just your honest opinion!

Thank you for your time and support!
Hmmmmm

Leading to many questions almost but not exactly like this:

You might ask why I bothered, well it's mildly amusing relief from struggling with the NHS website about whether I am or am not registered with the medical practice I've used for over 40 years.

Just put me down as a "Don't Know" please.

These types of questions are best for conjoint analysis. It's more about econometrics rathen than watches. I would appreciate your answer in my survey

Last group of questions are stupid. If the watch is ugly as fυck I don’t care what the cost is or what it is made from. If it is a handsome watch I don’t care what the price is or what it is made of.

Anyone proof these questions? Survey is a fail.

Did I mention I’m Dutch as a wooden shoe.

Final project will likely end up as AI generated slop, anyhow. Pointless academic busy-work. 😂

My guess is most companies would charge Watch C's price for Watch A if the market allows it.

As The Father posted, the questions are pretty much crap since there are too many variables unaccounted for. If I used questions like this for my Master's survey, professor would've sent me packing.

When it comes to buying something made in Switzerland, the truth is you don't really want to be bombarded by "eco friendly" labels and nonsense. How many things labeled sustainable or eco friendly have plastic in them? Even if you cared, you couldn't really check for yourself, so actually these labels come off as poorer quality, and try hard.

The materials going into high end watches are negligible anyways. Well made watches outlive the original owner, so they are in their own way quite eco friendly. Much more than an apple watch, 99% of which enter the dump 15 years after a new generation releases.

IMO, the notion that titanium is more sustainable than stainless steel is highly questionable. I think this depends greatly on the details and assumptions of the LCA.

True, Titanium ores illmenite and rutil still needs to be doug out of the earths crust, with all the usual environmental impacts. Further processing demands much energy and creates about 20 tons of CO2 per ton of titanium.

Titanium is still a fantastic metal; light, strong, corrosion resistant and anti alergenic.

Hallo, klomp. This survey examines willingness to pay for sustainable attributes in watches. So, I will not take into account your comment, but will be happy if you complete this survey

I tried to complete your survey but it’s not possible. In many cases I would choose any of the watches and/or there’s no way to decide as there has to be something different in the design etc, otherwise why would anyone choose a 12k titanium watch over a 3k steel watch with the exact same aesthetics and movement?

I applaud your effort but fee the questions need revisiting.

This is the exactly the reason of the research. You think these attrributes play no role (my honest opinion is the same). But I work in watch industry and know that horology is not as conservative as we might think. For sure there is a trend for sustainable attributes (at least for brands and movement manufacturers)

Yes, you right. It's more about prestige and price for the material

That's the thing. If you don't care of those attributes, you chose according to price. This is valuable for my research as well

I took the survey and chose all the cheapest options because the delta’s are so absurdly large.
