There are few things I enjoy more than a Seamaster waffle dial so this is pretty painful

Some pics for the rest of you -

Oh wow! Please message me if you ever feel like putting those up for sale!

Mine says hi. I have attended to the spring bar at the 10 position.

Buy the watch you like best, and enjoy it. You takes yer chances when it comes time to try to sell at a profit. Decide whether you want to be a collector or a dealer.

Yes! You articulated my key issues better than I did... though I'm not a huge fan of the minute track. The first on is my grail watch and I can't find any for sale yet.

Ah, that's useful. Instead of circle thingy I call it a minute track. Thanks... updating my post to use proper terminology.
Many call it a rail track.

If you buy as a collector, and buy what you like, you always enjoy a good investment. If you buy as a dealer, only finding enjoyment in what you buy if you sell at a profit, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Decide if you want to be a dealer or a collector.

Thanks for that Andy, I do my best but I think I'm maybe more of a XTE J1650-500 than a TON 618 😁

I'd go for A, and when the grail shows up buy that one too. The OP would then have the best of both worlds with an automatic and a manual wind.

We all know who the TON 618 is.... 😗

Genuine question - what reference is the "grail watch" supposed to be? I don't recall seeing that case used with anything else but automatic movements. As the hands are too long for the dial, it could be a put-together.

EDIT: @phamti, the one you refer to as a "1948" - the non-waffle dial - is post 1953.

Well since the question was about personal preference, I would have gone for the first one but for the hands, as @ConElPueblo has just stated. The third one is ok but it doesn't set me alight. For me the second one is the best, but it depends on how much the mark by 12 is going to irk you.

One thing I can guarantee is that if you buy none of these watches you'll have to wait a long time for the grail watch, but if you do spend all your available cash on any one of them, the grail watch will appear for sale next week. It's just one of those immutable laws, like a vest or jumper always being the right way round if you check the label before putting it on and the wrong way round if you don't.

A good question, to be honest I didnt really look at the 'grail', I was just comparing A and B

I think hands are okay. My guess is it’s a 2761 reference - the hands are longer than what would normally be expected.

Here’s mine, which I believe to be fully original.

I've got one with hands like yours. A cal 354 bumper, case reference 2557-6, my seconds hand is longer.

Interesting, never seen that reference before. Did a search and it looks as if the long hands are par for the course on these 😀

Every day is a school day!
